Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

It normally takes me under 15 minutes to roll to work in the summer. Today it took me 30. Just to give you an idea of how easy it is to get around with a mobility device in the downtown core, where the City is supposed to plow the sidewalks to a paved surface according to their own policy.

Some of y’all aren’t complaining enough in the way the city actually measures. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The snow operations map currently lists as complete some sidewalks in my area that are presently obstructed by 2m tall piles of ice dumped after blading the adjacent road down to the pavement.

So Bari Weiss’s first real editorial intervention at CBS is to repress coverage of American concentration camps.

Bari Weiss spiked the CECOT story because she wanted to have Stephen Miller included and demanded to control the language 60 Minutes used to describe the men who were brutally tortured after being sent to El Salvador without due process.

I swear it’s got progressively worse each year. Today, I watched them rip up the neighbours yard and destroy my lane markers, as a supervisor rides behind in his truck playing on his phone.

I wish we pushed for research on the political economy of academia more. It's what takes us beyond "oh why did this one person cite a fake journal article?" into "why do we have a system that rewards people who do not engage with prior research and simply churn out pubs?"

The problem with hiring a bunch of landscaping and concrete companies to do the street cleaning is that they don’t remember they’re *not* supposed to tear up the roads and yards on this job

We have a solution here that is blocked by a failure of politics: speed limiters installed in every vehicle would prevent this sort of tragedy. As the article says, reaction time would have been limited even if the worker’s PPE had not been a factor, because of the speed the driver was able to move.

This is a dumbfounding guideline. Absolutely a destructive and incompetent recommendation that was clearly made by people not qualified to judge such decisions.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:
