Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.

People always use that to detour off Osborne and rip down Churchill and back onto Osborne. Google maps even suggests it. I'm sure it sucks for the neighborhood.
This is terrible for this young boy.

Thank you Jakob and family for sharing your experience. This is absolutely horrific and should not be tolerated in our city. This is not an “oopsie”, it is active violence by design. Accountability is needed. Change is needed.
This shouldn’t happen. We don’t have to accept it.

NEW EPISODE: "The Creation of America's Car Culture." Producer Ilana Strauss talks to @norton.bsky.social about the two men who, in the 1920s, teamed up to sell more cars and shape the way cities handle traffic. Their legacy can be felt across the country today. podcasts.apple.com/lu/podcast/t...

Just got some details about the ten year old kid hit in a crosswalk along Osborne last week. He’s gonna make it but needed stitches on his face and serious dental work. No charges for driver. Enraging. Clear your schedule for Thursday after school lets out, you’re gonna want to be in South Osborne.

I think we can all see how the eradication of anti-racism initiatives and the effort to remove trans people from public life are projects of the fascist backlash to 2020, but we should see removals of bike lanes and pedestrianized spaces as part of the same project.
Freedom Drive through Forest Park was pedestrianized during Covid. Some awful people now want to reverse that

It is not encouraging to see new debris pop up along the routes I ride with my kids. It’s constant.
When you move around primarily or exclusively by car, you may not see the evidence of car crashes around you:
bent sign posts
broken car pieces
broken windshield glass
tire marks, etc.
For those who travel by 🚶🏻, 🚲, 🦽 & 🚌 these reminders are everywhere on sidewalks & streets.

Guess I have to stop bringing my razor wit to delegations
Security will be ramped up at the entrance to Winnipeg’s city council building, leading visitors to walk through a metal detector and check in with guards to gain access.

BREAKING: We won!
Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

Also many of the so called NO votes were not no votes. They supported the move to reopen and are glad to have those who supported cloture do so. Now they can make their little posts on social media and credulous voters will postback: 'thanks to my Senator for standing up.' Pure WWF.
It's just that they already voted to move this forward in the only vote that mattered. Today's vote only needs 50 so the Dems can now vote no and pretend that they didn't advance it when they already did.

The contrast could hardly be sharper. My friends and neighbors, armed only with whistles and voices, spend their weekend fighting off heavily-armed paramilitary goons. Meanwhile, these jagoffs capitulate, but not before securing another $1 billion for their own security.

Winnipeg’s preliminary budget for next year drops this Friday
Many city halls are deep in budget-time. Some are pushing austerity ideologies, and are ignoring the difference between costs and cost-savers/value creators. Citizens, PAY ATTENTION, and never forget that the TRUTH about a city’s REAL aspirations isn’t found in its visions. It’s found in its budget.
