Three out of five men in this shot have been accused of sexual misconduct, harassment or abusive behaviour towards women. A fourth signed into law a near-total abortion ban in his state as governor.

I'm mostly a journalist but my not-so-secret dream is to be a real fiction writer. So when @annaleen.bsky.social asked me to write something for a collection full of some of my all time heroes I was shocked and so, SO honored. You can now get that book (ideally from your local indie bookstore)!!!

This!
The saddest world view imaginable is that there are only the things in Heaven and Earth already dreamt of in my philosophy.

I've never once resented being told that there were good things out there that I hadn't experienced, even if, upon experiencing them, they turn out to suck.
Year-end critics’ lists exist for people to fight over, so I’m happy when people complain about them. But the complaint I will never get is, “I’ve never heard of most of these movies/albums/shows.” Yes, and? Why be mad about learning about stuff you didn’t know before from the news?

I switched to this and @bookshop.org for every book, ebook, and audiobook purchase where they have what I want - which is 99% of them -- and the apps are great, and I get to support a local bookstore. It's all win here, folks.
If you happen to be looking for an alternative audiobook listening platform, there are many out there, including us at Libro.fm 👋

We aim to build community in many ways, including by supporting independent bookshops with every purchase you make—versus tearing communities apart.

If new proposals detailed in an FDA memo are put into place, experts told me it would mean the end of annual flu shots. And end of most vaccines for pregnant people. And maybe the end of updates to pneumonia vaccines. And more.

i strongly, strongly believe that good writing is downstream of clear thinking and a strong understanding of the subject matter at hand. without fail, tortured writing comes from writers who don’t know and can’t think clearly about anything.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.

I've said it many times before, I'll say it again: our failure to treat the video store as a living, ever-evolving film library is one of the great cultural failures of our time.

So much disdain embedded in this. Every online outlet is *already* trying to write heds—with imperfect information!—that “work” on Google. Audience teams *already* advise on what to say and how to say it—to appeal to Google. Yet here we are.

I don’t need any more information about Tarantino’s opinions as long as I live. Truly. If he wants to make movies, he should go make movies! But sharing what Tarantino said *on Bret Easton Ellis’ podcast* is like a turducken of I Absolutely Do Not Care Even Slightly.

Kushner said he wouldn't have a foreign policy role in this administration just like the Trump Organization said it wouldn't make new foreign deals, just like Karoline Leavitt said Trump has never engaged in a conflict of interest.
As Jared Kushner prepares to meet with Putin today on behalf of Trump, REMEMBER: After taking billions from the Saudis and other foreign governments, Kushner explicitly said he would not have a foreign policy role in this administration.
