Love the BFI in its physical venue form and the online player version. Proud subscriber to both. Looking for something unusual and fun to watch at home this evening. The most popular title at the moment? A four hour long documentary about a French restaurant. No. I’m clearly a pretend film pseud.

My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.

If Doctor Who are giving old cast members another go then rather than continually wheeling out people from the Tenant era they should give Paul McGann a proper go. He'd be really good given some decent scripts.

Emma Siddi is in the writing/cast of the UK version of SNL. Which gives me hope for the first time. Because she is ace.

New Zealanders normally laugh when I tell them my name is Brian Edwards, because apparently he basically is their Terry Wogan.

My Wogan story - It was my first day of work at BBC Broadcasting House, I was 19 & quite nervous. I passed Wogan on the stairs & he gave me a cherry "Morning"

Later that week he stopped me & asked how I was getting on, which was lovely of him because he didn't know me at all.

A class act.
10 years since we lost the great Terry Wogan who, if you didn't know, was the first person to play reggae music on mainstream radio in the UK. I mentioned him in this piece about Dawn Penn's No No No for the @thequietus.com a couple of years back thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

I'm getting more than a little alarmed reading articles like this where the inventor behind it sounds so blissfully unaware of the consequences. "There's a few teething problems obviously. The android has to time travel naked but it can already ride a motorcycle"

I hate this. I hate that scholars and teachers are supposed to be digital fraud experts. I hate that this part of their job description is becoming larger and larger. I hate the widening distrust. I hate a culture that aggressively devalues the curiosity and humility required for ongoing learning.
New trick discovered today: an LLM-generated essay, saved as a PDF, with a tiny white space between each letter. This makes it impossible to paste quotes into a search engine, prevents text-matching in plagiarism checkers, & means URLs in bibliographies can't be clicked on. A lot of my time wasted.

I genuinely love the classification “possible film” - because that might also mean it’s a proper long form documentary about something unexpected. Good work @robmanuel.b3ta.com, thank you.
