Hello film migration people! I have followed 60-odd of my favourite accounts from Twitter. Some have already followed me back. If you have liked my nonsense on the other place, please follow me back and maybe put the word about I'm a good chap. James Bond, movies, books, sci-fi, Star Wars, etc.
Slow Horse.
Well, now I'm an English professor...

Nolan made the same point Cameron says Bigelow's film built up to, but in a subtle, effective way with that final conversation between Oppenheimer and Einstein. And HOD wasn't all that.

#NowWatching The Godfather PT.II. So timeless in its many qualities. Spectacularly detailed. I wish the TV edit of the two films would get a remastered release. What a pleasure that was to watch over several nights back in the day.

Good thread:
JW: Eyes Wide Shut (1999) Kubrick’s swan song is, like many of his films, chock full of details. A semi-autobiographical dream logic of coincidences trap a married couple in self doubt and sexual angst. A dark/light solstice of a film, as man and wife chase fatalistic hidden desire. #Filmsky 🧵

Not since Balls of Fury has table-tennis featured on the big-screen as it is in Marty Supreme, a lively, quirky story of Runyon-esque America. Timothée Chalamet excels, and there's Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears and New Order on the anachronistic soundtrack. 4/5

An excellent production btw, with a local Belfast Victorian setting take to it.

If famous people spend a larger percentage of their lives being awful than doing the thing they became famous for, that kinda tells us how to talk about them when they die
This is from Bardot's memoir "Un cri dans le silence" btw. I've seen a lot of people mentioning her "right wing politics" with a hand wave, so they can talk about her beauty or animal activism, but not actually sitting with the ugliness of her legacy.

Saw Avatar Fire And Ash. It was fine. Getting really quite repetitive now though. The Return Of The Jedi of the series. A second Death Star? Hold my beer (whips out several dragon gunships and an even bigger ship).

Paul is an excellent writer on Spielberg.
I never promoted this properly back on Twitter, but a few years ago I wrote a little monograph about Jurassic Park. Goes into depth on how the film explores fantasy, masculinity and nature.

Tom Cruise I think got a hard time over Eyes Wide Shut, but he's clearly giving a Kubrick-ian performance.
