Why do people keep depicting cyclops with a nose under the eye? the olfactory nerves would have to go all the way down and round and up behind the eyeball and get all caught up with the optic nerves. If they had evolved the nostrils would surely be more on the cheeks. Welcome to my TED talk.

In Iceland he is called Lyklaborðsgubbi or "keyboard goblin". He lies in wait in gullies, green rooms and recording studios and uses his grotesque boogie woogie piano to befoul perfectly good songs and steal the limelight from other musicians.

There's been a lot of talk about ghost stories in the run up to Christmas, but one that never gets mentioned is "The Return" (1973). Essentially a 2-hander starring Peter Vaughan & Rosalie Crutchley (cinematography by Douglas Slocombe) it's wonderfully creepy. Avoid reviews: they're full of spoilers

After a remarkably underwhelming day of terrestrial TV offerings, BBC2 are attempting to make amends from 21.15 onwards with possibly the first showing of 'Jaws' on any of the BBC channels - which thankfully means no ad breaks - followed by the documentary 'Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story'.
