I hear “well it’s always important to double check an AI’s work” so so often and it’s like…..yeah you can say that all you want but you know it won’t happen right. It just won’t. Like have you spent any amount of time around human people in society

This is such a great read and made me feel so much better about the work I’ve been doing articulating why I am in art school in my late 40s and why my art is more meaningful than I was giving it credit for
Did low effort content pave the way for AI? While it's easy to blame big tech, the recent onslaught of slop caters to an audience that has proven time and time again that they prefer quantity to quality. I talked about what it looks like to reclaim your taste and, by extension, your self respect.
You Have To Care
How thoughtless art paves the way for AI slop and how I'm freeing myself from it.

Rhasan had my favorite appetizer from my favorite restaurant in Oakland ready for me when I got back from school this evening, which he had made based on a youtube video from Mind of a Chef.

I'm going to continue to push back on the "you have to ~believe in~ amd ~prepare for~ AI" stuff. Working slobs like myself didn't have to "prepare for" computers or internet, either it becomes a thing in your industry or it doesn't.

I have to start an art project today so I'm doing what any sane person would do: look at incredible work done by people who don't have a deadline in 1 week and then berating myself for not having ideas

Scotland has passed a law that all new buildings must install ‘swift bricks’ which are hollowed out bricks to help nesting swifts and other endangered birds! Swifts are especially endangered because so many chimneys now have chimney caps. Swifts return to the same nesting spot year after year.

The beauty of neoliberal biopolitics is that being a good biopolitical subject can take so much work that people don't have time or agency left for other shit
starting to feel like there's a direct relationship between the growing obsession with lifestyle hygeine (no drinking, no caffeine, no sex, obsessive working out and looksmaxxing) and the inability to meaningful moral stands on issues of actual import
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

A thing that keeps bothering me about people talking about how fast you can write books, make podcasts, etc, is why should I bother reading/listening/looking at something you didn't think was worth the time to make?
The whole article is repulsive but this passage is at the core of it. She has no interest in writing books, she wants to win some kind of competition that nobody entered

For art history this week we had to do sketches in the style of 4 pre-set artists. It was way more fun than I expected, and also demonstrable proof that practicing drawing does make it easier. I am so much better than I was a year ago.
