I was talking about this. You have to understand that the Sequel Trilogy was basically Gamergated (yes, this is a thing now) and the whole production faced unprecedented levels of abuse that has yet to be properly reckoned with. It reached a crescendo after The Last Jedi and I think JJ basically
i also think Rian Johnson made them more interesting but all the dumb fans and JJ Abrams hated that so they retconned some interesting stuff out
