No lie: I included a “this song will change your life” bit in my senior yearbook page— a year before GARDEN STATE came out. The song was “No More Hot Dogs” by Hasil Adkins.

An overlooked key to reading film criticism is to try and suss out the critic’s secondary obsessions. A movies-and-music guy will have a different perspective than a movies-and-sports guy, or a movies-and-politics guy, and so forth.

This is also what I do every time I watch a Godzilla movie.
We are watching Godzilla (1954) again and the 6 year old is hopping around saying “long live Godzilla! Long live Godzilla!”

Speaking of MTV, does anyone remember “The Cool TV?” Popped up maybe 10 years ago along with MeTV and all those channels— all music videos, seemingly chosen at random, with low rent ads. I feel like it lasted a few months tops.
