Bakunin wrote about this very thing!

"Does it follow that I reject all authority? Far from me such a thought. In the matter of boots, I refer to the authority of the bootmaker; concerning houses, canals, or railroads, I consult that of the architect or the engineer.
So there is an issue with authority.

Authority that arises from experience, character, and skill seems to me to be different than authority by hierarchy, force, or status.

Thoughts?

also: state's monopoly on violence means that it will inherently attract the worst among us. this cannot be reformed, you cannot put the good guys at the top, even if they ARE good the rot will simply get in right under them

The superstructure that colludes to enable child trafficking is the superstructure that colludes to cheer on illegal wars of conquest and genocide and the same superstructure that colludes to enable massive wealth transfer to a handful of billionaire perverts and it's all held up by guns and prisons

Seems also worth noting that this in large part because we've built a society in which the traits that would make one more likely to be a rapist are also the ones most associated with succeeding within it
It’s been pretty clear for a while but brought to rack focus today, that successful people are encouraged to view rape as a perk of success and a great many successful people need no encouragement at all.

Fuck this shit, seriously. There is no genetic test for autism or schizophrenia (thank fuck) yet this article has "autism researchers" like fucking Baron-Cohen doing the "oh but he had high risk factors so, you know, wink wink" bit.
Exclusive: Adolf Hitler’s DNA has been sequenced by scientists

It has:
- shown he had a disorder which impacted his sexual development
- debunked rumours about his ancestry
- shown a high likelihood that he had a neurodivergent condition and/or bipolar disorder

As I've said, we're in a federally mandated relationship with the worst person you know. That's fucked up.
along with the heinous literal crimes i think a lot about how there's a kind of moral, national crime in subjecting all of us to this, to this consuming our politics, committed against us by a number of powerful and connected people up to and including the president

if the Epstein stuff gets fully released we all need to be prepared for the mass outing of a huge number of people who we may have previously loved very much as entertainers or who did a lot of very good things whilst wielding governmental powers

fuck 'em all, to be clear, but it's gonna suck

Authoritarianism can only succeed when democracy fails to deliver for working people.

Authoritarian parties can only succeed when the pro-democracy parties fail to fight for working people.

We need a new democracy and a new party system which can represent working people.

I would way rather have an adaptation of Crowded by @brandtandstein.com et al
The faithful-to-a-fault adaptation of Stephen King’s novel trades ‘American Gladiators’ for ‘Most Dangerous Game,’ but now feels quaint in an America that was stupid enough to elect *its* favorite psychopathic game show host as President… twice. (Review of #TheRunningMan)
Review: 'The Running Man' Can't Outrun Our Hellish Reality
The faithful-to-a-fault adaptation trades 'American Gladiators’ for ‘Most Dangerous Game’, but the too-little-too-late political actioner still ends up falling short of the likes of ‘Hard Target’.

I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

Khanna is intentionally dancing around it, but he's actually calling out a very real Democratic Party strategy called "rotating villain."
Khanna: And then it’s awfully convenient that those eight senators happen to be the ones who aren’t up in 2026—and they’re all consulting Schumer. People are sick of this. That’s why I called on Schumer to step down.

I am ambivalent about DC exploiting Watchmen, which was developed with them and their editors, in a way that I struggle harder to find a way to do as well with V, which was started in Warrior. I've seen, and enjoyed, the movie several times, but I'm still probably going to pass on this series.

There's a complicated conversation that we'll never have on really dealing with pronouncing sounds that simply don't exist in English, or sometimes just American English, and this occasionally frustrates me.

Right now, to sayI think you are wrong and "byurk" sounds more like "Björk" than "byork".
