I hate that it has come to this, but my biomom has been partly paralyzed due to gallbladder issues sustained throughout much of this year. She’s recovered several vital functions (speaking, eating solid food, breathing on her own), but her limbs remain incapacitated. Please help if you can.

In addition to the other inflation-fueling policy that Republicans do, forcing people to need cars is a big one. A two-car family can easily spend more on cars than housing.

California Dems are working to change that, improving our city planning to make getting around without driving easier. 1/
Car payments have jumped 35% in just five years. 1 in 5 Americans are now paying over $1,000/month just for their car. Families are drowning in costs, and this administration refuses to acknowledge the affordability crisis they created.

In the past 2 years a small group of insane people on X have doxxed my home address and sent me a glitter bomb, posted dozens of bizarre AI images of me, crudely speculated about my sex life, and tried to get my husband fired because they don’t like my posts about, uh, zoning reform.
vividly remember, in the Corbyn Hell Years, seeing people on Twitter quite actively bonding over their joint hatred of me - trying to outdo each other in their meanness - and I just don't think it's possible to explain how weird and unpleasant it is, especially as someone who's....no-one
People don’t really understand the nature of the problem. It’s not lots of little random ankle-biter tweets. That’s annoying but whatever. It’s when hating you becomes this communal pursuit that exists separately from yourself. Like there’s an entire group of people working together to target you.

I'm sure those charts and statistics about the strong economy might mean a lot to you people, but why don't you show them to my friend who bankrupted himself ordering so much extra guac on his burrito that DoorDash had to find a driver who owned a U-Haul?

They wouldn't be bad if ppl knew better than to form all-encompassing parasocial relationships with them. I imagine our culture will adapt, in time, to make ppl realize this is a bad idea.

In the meantime, the idiocy will continue.
Broadly speaking: reality tv is bad for democracy, influencers are bad for democracy, streamers are bad for democracy, YouTubers are bad for democracy.

Exceptions to all categories exist, but it’s astonishing how absolutely clogged our political and media ecosystems are with low-info narcissists

I imagine that this sounds insane to very-Eurodescendant Brazilians and Uruguayans who practice Umbanda, a syncretic mix of Candomble and Kardecist spiritism, and whose temples may be as vulnerable to racist evangelical violence as Candomble temples.
I can assure you that you do not in fact want that.

Momentum continues to grow for state-level accountability measures for federal agents who violate citizens’ rights. Recently, our own Jane Bentrott testified in favor of MD’s version of a universal constitutional remedies law which Gov. Wes Moore seemingly touted in his state of the state address:

We’re reaching levels of Aesthetic polarization we never thought imaginable
Like, yes, I find all the political & policy elements grotesque. But it's also *aesthetically* so gross. I hate the way they talk, their cultural references, the way they dress, the art they like, the f'ing vehicles they drive ... I mean, it's crazy, how did they hit on literally everything I hate??

There are fundamentally two Americas: the Union and the Confederacy. Our current struggle is about which we choose to be.
The answer is they don’t like the US, they like the Confederacy. Explicit, codified, unashamed racism ruled by oligarchic elites. Strict social codes and mores that buttress the entire thing who themselves were built on misremembered imagined histories.

This is a huge glaring issue right now. Courts generally ARE doing fairly well, even including significant number of Trump appointees. The corruption is concentrated in scotus.
Our court system is largely working, with the exception of the most important court
Courts have ruled 4,400 times that ICE jailed people illegally. It hasn’t stopped.
