Basically, Virginia has a “Chicago” (NoVA). Georgia is painfully close to having a Chicago. FL, NC and TX are far from having a Chicago, despite FL and TX being so (ex)urbanized.

Your point about inefficient distribution reminds me of some thread on Twitter I read about how even states with multiple big metros (Texas, Florida, North Carolina) are incredibly easy to gerrymander for exurbans/rurals, while states with a single overwhelming metro are a bit more difficult.

This reminds me that 16 states have pledges of allegiance for their own state flags, most of them south of the Mason-Dixon. Given that blue states are now having to define themselves in opposition to the feds, maybe this would be a good time to adopt such.
