For months, I’ve been following a Canadian ostrich farm ordered to cull its flock after a bird flu outbreak. It was a cause célèbre for MAHA activists, a MAGA billionaire, and, of course, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The trucker convoy with birds ended last night. They lost. www.msnbc.com/news/news-an...

The anti-vaccine, anti-government crusade to save "the miracle cure birds" is over — and the fringe activists lost.

I could go on forever about this, but my point is that the hardship of work, the struggle, the messiness, the *humanity* of it, if you will, is what's most valuable about it. It's how we learn, it's how we grow.

Replacing that with "AI" cheapens and degrades the process, and leaves us the poorer.

Use their website to see where the petition is located near you
The group collecting petition signatures for a citizen's initiative to defund private schools in Alberta seem well organized. They have a website with a professionally shot video that seeks to highlight the disparity between public and private school funding.

It really is quite something to see so much put together in one place. I’m getting tired of keeping up with this and thank you Jared for doing the hard work.
Keeping up with the UCP government's democratic transgressions can be difficult.

But not impossible.

Here’s a running list since Danielle Smith became premier. 🧵👇

I heard this once as "In a just world, only a few people are guilty, but everyone is *responsible*" and that has really stuck with me.
I’ve said this before but white guilt is useless. I don’t want people to feel guilty for things they had no part in, and guilt easily curdles into resentment. But everyone regardless should feel an obligation to correct injustice, especially if you somehow benefit. bsky.app/profile/mich...
I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.

We already know! It is racism, misogyny and misinformation. I know that sounds condescending or whatever but it's simply what all evidence suggests.

The incompetence of this government ceases to amaze me. Will fight the federal government tooth and nail but rolls over to expose its belly to foreign resource extractors all to give away Alberta taxpayer dollars
The United Conservative Party government recently awarded a $95-million settlement to the Australian mining firm Montem Resources.

About a third of that settlement will go to an investment firm in Melbourne. The same firm that funded Montem’s lawsuit against Alberta.

Andrew Nikiforuk writes.

Two firms that invested far less are getting $235 million. Taxpayers face more such hits.

If you and your children are not ready for a particular book, that is okay. It is not okay to limit the access to books, stories, and experiences for other families. Every book is not for everyone, but every book is for someone.

This is a great thread describing the disaster that the UCP is more than willing to unleash on us.
Let's run through just ONE example of what will enfold with govt's new TESTING PRIVITIZATION PLAN
Simplifying in broadstrokes a common example:
Take a 35yo female with heavy pelvic bleeding and irregular menses, who has no FM doc.

🚨 This is inexplicable news to share. If in Alberta and you want flu and covid shots for NEXT year (2026-2027), you have only until December 15 of THIS year to order them.

This is not incompetence. It’s a deliberate choice to prevent as many people ..

We are at 1.4C and nature is failing.

So I am asking you once again why you're allowing a handful of multinationals condemn your children and grandchildren to a hellscape future, just so they can "grow shareholder value"

More evidence that the UCP government has lost the plot
Budgets are about priorities.

Under the UCP, funding for public education and universities remains frozen, resulting in 'cuts by inflation.'

Funding for private schools has increased above inflation.

In a real way, this means money is flowing from public to private schools.

Priorities.
