Great thread to use to explain to those who keep defending AI why it actually is useless
The AI bros (who clearly don't understand AI) in the comments are hilarious. "ask stupid questions, get stupid answers". LLMs have no concept of how intelligent a question is, and they certainly were not designed to deliberately give stupid responses if they deem your question too stupid. 1/?
It’s so funny to think about the fact that there’s people out there deferring every life decision to this

These are not the kind of cuts that lead to nation building that @mark-carney.bsky.social has been so vocal about. Same with the cuts to Agriculture.

Scientists and labour leaders are warning that cuts to Environment and Climate Change Canada could significantly impact the health and safety of Canadians as well as Canada's wildlife and environment.

I'm just going to keep saying this until I die:

In a white supremacist patriarchy, you have value only insofar as you serve the white supremacist patriarchy.

Kyle Rittenhouse & Ashli Babbitt did. Renee Good & Alex Pretti didn't. On Jan 6, the insurrectionists did. The cops didn't.

Rinse, repeat.
The people who spent years defending and even lionizing Kyle Rittenhouse and Ashli Babbitt now want us to believe that an unarmed mother in her car and a disarmed nurse were domestic terrorists who deserved to be murdered by law enforcement.

The way to give millions of Canadians the relief they need now, and build a stronger, more resilient economy for the long-term, is to implement universal basic income. Frame it as a dividend from technology everyone is owed. End poverty. Grow your economy. Show the world how a real democracy works.

Canadian scientist here. I don't want this. I want you to fund our excellent early career scientists who do great work in Canada. Fund them properly and that will help 1000x more than recruiting handfuls of cherry picked bigwigs from Harvard, Stanford and MIT who will leave after a few years.

This stay at home mom says "unchecked power is not normal"
People often ask: what can ordinary people do to stop populists like Trump and Smith from running roughshod over democratic norms?

Populists rely on the widespread perception that their actions are supported by "the majority" and "common people."

Anything that punctures that myth helps. +

Puzzles are a big red flag for AI. I love puzzles and it's getting harder to find a real photograph or piece of artwork. But it's worth taking the time to find one.
I just discovered that the jigsaw puzzle Mom and I have been working on is AI. The tells for me were the things in the lower right: the weirdly distorted ornaments, the blue yarn blob, and the... flutes? Nunchucks? I don't even know. Ran it through WasItAI and yup, it was. Super flipping depressing.

I hate having my initial feelings of joy being quickly overtaken by "wait, is this AI?" But can't get complacent in actually thinking critically.
I didn't see the AI dog video but in learning to up my AI radar for images and how to spot what's off (or to realize what I subconsciously picked up on when my brain flags it as fake), what I realized is, it reminds me of is a lesson from when I did a forensic psychology course several years ago.

So that's the lesson that pops up for me with AI stuff--when evaluating now, I look at whatever the focus is NOT on.

This isn't to say AI won't eventually be good enough to smooth out everything, but right now it can't. The tells are outside what the video/image wants you to focus on.

An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.
