I wrote this in April 2024, about why people were refusing to leave X as it became undeniably a pro-white-supremacist site

But holy hell could I not have predicted that by 2026, it would be a child abuse material production site and THAT TOO is not enough to get people to leave the fucking place
You are the fuel that energises Elon Musk’s hate machine
X is something entirely new: it has the clout and influence of Twitter, blended with the hate of 4chan and the lies of TruthSocial. And it lingers because its users don’t see themselves as th…

On every continent, food supplies have grown faster than the population—

We just lived through the period with the fastest population growth in human history. Six decades ago, there were three billion people on our planet.

The girl who ignited a cultural movement reflects on changes since she was shamed for wearing a ribbon skirt
About five years ago, Isabella Kulak, a member of the Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan was shamed for wearing a ribbon skirt to formal day.

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

Also: I think the observation that a lot of people leave conservative evangelism and try to produce that same evangelical experience with their leftist politics is true

Sometimes the guiding political habits don’t come from their politics
some identify publicly with the left because they hate oppression, others because they hate being oppressed. things will make more sense when you keep in mind that these are not the same - or even similar

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

The mass of CO₂ humans put into the atmosphere in 2025 is 4x the mass of all plastic humans have ever produced.
Humans have emitted 2750 gigatons of CO2 since the industrial revolution from burning fossil fuels and land use change. To put this in perspective, this is more than the (dry) mass of all living things on earth and everything humans have ever built combined:

Seventy years ago, Jonas Salk and his team worked in a lab between a morgue and a darkroom to develop the world’s first successful polio vaccine.

A filmmaker who made a documentary on Salk’s work explains why forgetting life before vaccines has real consequences: buff.ly/VYpqOy4

It’s no guarantee but the first thing you should do if you see an outrageous story that’s just an image or screenshot or video with no link to a reputable source is to check the replies and see if someone is saying “that’s an AI fake.” And then don’t spread it either way because it’s not sourced.

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.
