Emergency Physician. HC advocate. Got to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight.
Wait... it gets worse... this is what it is like after the weekend.

Might not want to get sick on Monday's in Edmonton Area...

Premier still thinks "it's just the Flu"...

We're almost 6 weeks from a highly publicized death at an ED in Edmonton

Govt said it's all "just influenza" (ignore our govt admitting we can no longer handle seasonal volumes)

Govt said everything that can be done is being done...

EDs in EDM today - still Gridlocked

A national call to action.

Deaths in ER waiting rooms are a policy choice
Sometimes they make the news. Most of the time, they don’t.

Sums up the craziness that is some of CorruptCare nicely.
Wonder how this investigation is going? Seems really really quiet.

Aortic Aneurysm surgery isn’t “elective”. It’s not something anyone should have to wait weeks for. (Former Cardiac Rehab RN here). This is beyond unacceptable: it’s appalling.

Some examples of near misses in AB EDs, from severe overcrowding. Shared with govt but not acknowledged.

A male in his 20’s presented with shortness of breath. Waited amongst those in the waiting room for over 7 hours before being seen.

There’s no question system pressures are leading to decisions and errors like these.
We can a should be able to do better.
Here is mine: bilateral mastectomy as day surgery, 2pm I was tachycardic in recovery rm, discharged at 6:30pm, collapsed at home and taken back to the ER, blood pressure recorded at 55/32 in the ER 🫠.

(I dont blame the Drs but I firmly believe if hospitals weren't so crowded I would have been kept)

Great editorial...
"That’s why quality programs matter. They protect patients, drive efficiency, and keep the system sustainable. Yet in times of restructuring, these programs are often the first to go."
Opinion: Health-care access without quality is an empty promise
So, the next time government officials promise to “improve access,” we should all ask: access to what?

“They’re not creating any new capacity. They’re just shifting capacity,” said Litvinchuk, who argues this is playing out in the data.

“And what’s being sacrificed with that is access to critical surgeries.”

Consider this excellent summary, exposing a lack of operational control, when you think of pts with Mental Health Concerns spending days to weeks stranded in EDs in the large hospitals. Who's responsible to ensure they receive safe and timely care?

Refocused health-care system paints confusing picture of operational control - Medicine Hat News
It remains unclear how the medical workforce will be co-ordinated as the province rolls out its restructured health-care system. Last week, the province released a report based on the second round of public engagement regarding the refocusing, which took place from January to May. Recommendations in the report were drawn from 70 sessions across Alberta

Calling Premier Smith. Does this sound like your HC system is functioning appropriately?

“Once admitted, her mother was squeezed as the third patient into a two-bed hospital room for more than a week, Krawiec said.

Cancelled due to HCW shortages... TWICE... But the Premier thinks everything is fine.

She's getting very bad advice from consultants who don't work on the frontlines or in HC at all...

Kimon Pierson thought he would have his heart surgery done in early December and be well on his way to recovery by now, but it’ll be another two weeks until his rescheduled surgery date – at least that’s what he hopes.

Isn’t it interesting that Premier Danielle Smith has remained SILENT on health care for so long?

While ABs are dying and experiencing prolonged suffering and poor outcomes in ED waiting rooms and hallways, she has nothing to say.

Well ain’t that something. The politician “experts” saying more people vaccinated would not have helped.
Complete and utter BS.

Better build many many more hospitals UCP… or is the plan to just keep letting ABs die in the ED WRs?
Alberta’s flu season is the deadliest in years, yet the UCP is doubling down on anti-expert rhetoric. While doctors state clearly that higher vaccine uptake would save lives, the government is calling that "false" to cover for their failing health policy. Spin kills. #AbLeg #Abpoli #Cdnpoli
