🔮⚡My annual energy policy predictions column is up!

Predictions from five female leaders in the energy and climate space outline what to expect in 2025.

The 2025 column was eerily prescient - how will this one look in a year?

"One year after the start of congestion pricing, traffic jams are less severe, streets are safer, and commute times are improving for travelers from well beyond Manhattan."

Hair growth check in - 2026 is starting out considerably better than 2025 in terms of hair. So at least there is that (man I still can’t believe I was that bald?!)

Many people still think of poverty as something that happens when people don’t work. But the reality is different: majority of people who live in poverty in Canada are working or live in families who work. @gillianpetit.bsky.social and my 2026 chart to watch www.theglobeandmail.com/business/eco...

Niche AB point on the potential for more Venezuelan heavy crude coming online - it would be that much easier to meet the watered down commitment in the fed prov MOU which saw net zero oil commitment replaced by a relatively weak best in class compared to the average for heavy oil:

I’m afraid I might be addicted to these puzzles

In addition it’s so intricate that it’s relatively small and fits easily on the table.

I still remember Nikos Tsafos’ comments on a webinar 5 years ago that oil, for all its useful physical attributes, isn’t inherently reliable but rather that we put enormous resources into creating a system that creates the reliability.
Trump just said what it is all about.
The sooner the world sheds its addiction to fossil fuels, the better. The alternatives are available, plentiful and cheaper.

Another thing about cancer is that you find little things that could be signs of spread/reoccurrence and you try to tell yourself that the odds that it’s anything are vanishingly small and then you remember than is how you got here in the first place.

Related to one of these - the internet tells me that lake whitefish is actually a species of fish that can be caught in Alberta. Anyone know someone who would want to trade some whitefish in exchange for a fewer number of smoked back?

In happier news - I’ve been seeing these puzzles from stumpcraft.com at the pharmacy for months and decided finally today that I should get it. It’s a work of art, they have cool piece shapes, and the pieces even smell good (and made in 🇨🇦)

The first level down was 3 pills to address the first one and I’m like - guys I watched Square One so I understand exponential growth - this is not going to end well (thankfully it at least didn’t continue)
Thinking I had reached the bottom of the cancer pill turtles with the pills to address the side effects of the treatment pill but no - there is a new pill to add in order to address the side effects of one of the pills that addresses the side effects of one of the pill needed for treatment. 🫠

Of course I can’t deny that I’m sad to be left out but I liked it better when the Canadian annual charts to watch series was broader than just economists invited to contribute.
