Currently on partial medical leave and Associate professor, Dept of Earth, Energy, and Environment, University of Calgary; co-director http://NZERI.ca; energy/carbon/innovation policy + bikes.
My dad was an OG hipster bike dad (no e option in those days but I grew up in a completely flat relatively small town. Also no helmet options for kids so my parents got us hockey helmets. Note the towel behind us to protect from the scotching hot black plastic)

I don’t know if anyone will believe it but he came up with this idea all on his own (my help was just in how to look at existing laws to find examples of how different parts are written)

À la @thatheatherc.bsky.social I don’t think my oncologist would be happy with me watching this game (and I’ve even really been a baseball fan for like 30 years)

By far the oddest thing my child got trick or treating

Strangely enough it came in a little bag with some candy so it’s not like the people forgot to get candy and were handing out things around the house 🤷‍♀️

I wanted to share this picture of my almost finished renovated bathroom because I love how the cabinet turned out but I wasn’t expecting bathroom renovation to be a major social media topic today

I think I’ve got a solid handle on the #petiteknit #esthervest chart. Still a few repeats to go.

Winter biking doesn't have to be hard core. I'm not hard core, I'm at my heart a wimpy Californian who hates the cold. But I also hate not going outside. So I got the right warm gear and a trike and I bike through the winter.

Part of me wants to ignore this and forget that I read it and part of me feels compelled to write a letter to the editor about this whole piece because this is not just incorrect, it’s harmful.

So I know citation counts have their own list of issues but I'm still excited that I'm on track to having my most cited paper be actually about what I do now and not from my quantum computing materials days (those have an advantage just by the nature of being older).

The vehicle detour lanes btwn the children’s hospital and the foothills are back to being the bike path and 10/10 for fun places to ride in the city and imagine you are in a cycle town. If yycbike is looking for a place to take little kids and let them have fun on a wide pathway I can recommend it.

I love the image this evokes, happy little batteries just relaxing on the pasture, eating grass and living their best calm life, recounting the stories of crazy adventures they had.

Congrats to @mykeatkinson.bsky.social

Looking forward to this becoming reality (one more place that would be perfect for protected infrastructure is university drive leading straight to campus)

It would be ironic if the war on cars was won because of robotaxis/self driving cars actually yielding to people

This is exciting - not only did Macleans highlight our new Energy Science Program as a "Standout" in their university rankings, they specifically mention the cross-disciplinary approach and energy policy🎉💪
