When a spill happens on the coast, Alberta will take zero responsibility cleaning it up as well.

Good thread is good:
An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

Captain's log, star date 2512.01.
It is day 37 of black Friday. We have yet to discover when these words lost all meaning. There is growing concern that time became broken when boxing day leaked from containment and stretched first to seven days, and then advanced ahead of Christmas eve.

Which parents get parental rights? Such a frustrating question
Which parents are the ones who get "parental rights?" In Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District (OH), it's those who want to ban books featuring any "sexuality content" or "gender ideology." Inside the school board's educationally-destructive new policy:

@feistywaters.com are you aware of someone tracking Canadian data?
I'm serious: someone could take up the task of tracking all of these Canadian library budget cuts. They're showing up as much as the American ones in my searching.

From two day's worth of searches, the next few messages.

The trouble with the UCP's dual practice model?

Think about a double double.

If the line at Tim’s is long because there’s only one person pouring coffee, opening an “express lane” for people who tip $20 doesn’t speed things up. It means those with more money get the coffee while others wait.
Back in school, I wrote an essay about how two-tier healthcare would improve access for everyone.

It makes intuitive sense: create a second line and the original one gets shorter, right?

A better look at the evidence and arguments like Picard's changed my mind. 🧵
Picard’s point on AB’s new “dual practice” plan: evidence shows letting surgeons bill public & private won’t fix wait times, it likely lengthens them, drains staff from public hospitals, adds red tape, and undermines access.

A solution in search of a problem. www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/70a7e73...

Not the most infuriating thing cuz there are SOOO MANY infuriating things going on in this province I'm not really sure which tops the list
Nothing more infuriating to me than the UCP constituencies demanding govt throttle renewables because of the sanctity of their own pristine landscapes, but also demanding that Ottawa support ramming pipes that they are invested in through the pristine landscapes of folks in other provinces.

I am so fuckn tired of this government. Protests, letters , phone calls - I keep doing it but I don't want to.
They could. They didn't have to. But they did it anyway.

Why did the UCP use the notwithstanding clause to strip trans folks of their Charter rights?

Laziness? Impatience? Vengence?

Motives matter little. The impact is by design: maximal harm in minimal time.

I want to read this but my blood started to boil when in a very early paragraph I read "policy that REQUIRES him to work in one of Alberta’s private, for-profit chartered surgical facilities". It got worse very quickly
“I am not working in those facilities because I find it morally inappropriate.”

A Tyee investigation found that Calgary anesthesiologists are being scheduled by managers, in response to government directives, to work in for-profit chartered surgical facilities, sometimes against their will. #abpoli
