America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

The worst part is this has been actively cultivated by leadership through embracing the filibuster/omnibus bill dichotomy. It's really hard to know what's going on when maybe One Bill That Solves Problems is passed in a year.
This is what happens when you have a populace that is broadly civically illiterate. The average voter knows next to nothing about the issues that surround the immigration process, and doesn't care to learn. They want paternalistic politicians who they don't have to monitor or hold to account.
The American people will rise up with one voice in the next election, and declaim proudly and true: "We demand a militarized universal deportation program that involves no violence and has no economic impact! And we want it NOW!"
