A huge part of it was digital distribution, not only reducing the cost to ship a game but opening up significant competition (harder to sell a game when you're competing with new, cheaper indie titles and The Entire Catalogue Of Video Games On The Internet)

I've been getting ads for Brick, which is a little block with an NFC chip that turns your phone to focus mode until you tap it back on the physical thing. That might help since you can throw the doohickey in the other room.
