One of my self-soothing YouTube genres, alongside scariest wilderness encounters, most horrible caving disasters, Soulsborne lore etc., is "this is my everyday carry." And what I'm here to say is that if I see a Tide pen in the thumbnail of your EDC video, that's how I know you're a serious person.

What we call health care is not only seen as a private privilege rather than a public good; it's seen as primarily a method of correction for defective bodies. It is neither. It is the prerequisite for all human rights and freedoms: expression, speech, religion, free movement, free association.

I was at a metal clubnight in Manchester wearing this jacket. The Irish guy queuing at the bar next to me loudly says to the barmaid "Nah, Judge Dredd here was ahead of me"

This is of course tangential to the Problems of Journalism, but I am still thinking about the comically ill-fitting jacket Jacob Bernstein is wearing in that stock photo of him people were sharing.

3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

Trump getting elected a few weeks AFTER the Access Hollywood tape dropped was to America’s culture of sexual violence what Sandy Hook was for gun violence—a clear sign that tens of millions of “conservatives” were totally fine with it.
i mean c’mon. the president’s best friend was the most notorious pedo in the country’s history who ran a massive child trafficking ring. every bit of circumstantial evidence we have says that trump was a participant. if this were a criminal trial we’d have enough evidence to compel a plea deal.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

So that's gonna be awkward when all the evidence is out in front us just like it has been for a long time that Trump's a pedophile & nothing happens to him & he's still the president.

Seeing zero northern lights in our part of Philly so far, but it seems like that might be down to light pollution. Cities are very good for people, but not for nothing, a glimpse of the Milky Way from a relatively dark part of the world is also good for a person.

No one will ever sum up Bari Weiss's career more succinctly than "what's the point of standards"
“Standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She asks ‘What’s the point of standards?’

My spouse has been watching Midsomer Murders while she knits, and the theme plays not only at the beginning of each episode, but every commercial break as well. By now, I bet if you looked at my brain, you could find a physical groove worn into it, in the shape of that theremin melody.

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

Mamdani is a threat not because he is a special unicorn, but because his success is replicable.

THAT is why the establishment loathes and fears him.

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

Oh, it was *Zionists* that corrupted "our" politicians and helped usher in fascism in this country, was it? Good thing it was them and not a larger, long-festering homegrown issue in American political life. If we just purge them it all be better
Zionists have been highly instrumental in corrupting our politicians and bringing about fascism in this country, those this information is very relevant.
