back on twitter I used to maintain a dictionary of novel phrases I've seen emerge on tiktok. I think I'll start a new one here:
I want this and have tried to pitch it but the market that exists for low-budget 2d animation is wholly sated by anime other than the odd awards-targeted feature
Is there a reason why A24 hasn't started a proper animation division? Can you imagine how much getting a string of auteur-driven 2D films made on, like, $20 million each could do for the American industry?

leaving aside the awful, does a market for that even exist anymore? as an HBO show it's already pretty niche compared to merch juggernauts like Marvel, and the fandom's pretty long in the tooth. would the weird losers who can't let the IP go even want a Harry doll that didn't look like Radcliffe?
Hasbro and Warner Bros. Discovery have signed a multi-year deal starting in 2027 to produce Harry Potter film and television series dolls, role play, action figures, collectibles, interactive plush, board games, and more to be revealed later this year - bwnews.pr/45UKdKL

The Armenian Genocide is a historical fact. Vice President Vance can delete his post, but he can't erase history. His decision to ignore the facts is beyond disrespectful to the Armenian community and the millions killed in the Armenian Genocide.

Meat is a big issue. Demand continues to grow. It’s resource intensive. Bad for the environment. I don’t see how we don’t shift to lab-grown meat in the next decade.

The United States is at this moment closer to civil war than it has been in 150 years.

In this thought-provoking piece, Charli Carpenter outlines what developments could push America over the edge or pull it back from the brink.
Anti-ICE Protests in Minneapolis May Help Prevent a Civil War
The nonviolent activism on display in Minneapolis could strengthen America’s democracy, which is the best bulwark against civil war.

there are so many third-space ventures in LA that get funded on "and it'll be filled with hot people! instagram will do our marketing for us!" and it turns out ig hotties show up when they're paid and stay home taking selfies the rest of the time
there have been some attempts here in LA, notably "The Wood," a bar-like setting with outdoor space. The problems inevitably are: it's smelly, most people who like weed enough to want to go there aren't the instagram hotties the investors imagined, and weed doesn't produce mingling like booze does

We're far enough past the "Mad Men" finale to where they could do a one-off reunion movie that takes place in late 1983 in which Don, freelancing after many years of alcohol-related career setbacks, pitches head-of-creative Peggy Olson the Apple "1984" Super Bowl ad.
