back on twitter I used to maintain a dictionary of novel phrases I've seen emerge on tiktok. I think I'll start a new one here:
I've been trying to figure out Avatar for I guess a decade and a half and only got as far as "Theme Park Ride Ass Movie." This focuses it and also dovetails well with mass audience expectations in South and East Asia, what feels like a "complete" experience regardless of genre - most US films don't.
I feel like the Avatar movies are designed for people who see like, exactly one movie a year. Well crafted with a lot of fun spectacle, plus a plot that is extremely direct about what it's saying. For people who like movies, but think "want their money's worth" not "seriously? over three hours??"

For a period of a couple of years during the 2010s I was employed regularly by cattle to shoot the covers for the albums they had recorded. It was always wonderfully inspiring to witness the love, hard work and passion they had put into their music and I think that comes through in the photos.

let me map this to a specific example from my terrible industry overseen by AI marks: the Constraint in film production has never been idea generation or script writing, the main thing AI corps are shilling to us. A well-run development dept (lol) can go from pitch to shooting script in 8 weeks
Let's talk about AI Hype and the Theory of Constraints. From a business perspective, the key metric is "lead time." The time it takes to get an idea to the point where it's producing revenue ("in the customer's hands").

at the risk of being corny, I was thinking a lot about this line from A Christmas Carol: “Darkness was cheap and Scrooge liked it”. it’s a clever merging of his solitude and his spendthriftiness, but it’s also applicable metaphorically: it’s easy to be grim, takes work to create light.
