back on twitter I used to maintain a dictionary of novel phrases I've seen emerge on tiktok. I think I'll start a new one here:
there's actually a persistent problem in a lot of charity/activism work that people approach it like a hobby and want to do a version that feels personally fulfilling instead of what's efficient for meeting the goal, like people always wanna knit socks for homeless people instead of just buying some
whistles are cheap and widely available without carpeting the earth in microplastics
New from 404 Media: people are 3D-printing whistles to warn each other about the presence of ICE. Some people make designs and upload them; others are given a design and are printing hundreds and hundreds of whistles at home. It's been effective in Chicago

The Latest Defense Against ICE: 3D-Printed Whistles
Chicagoans are making, sharing, and printing designs for whistles that can warn people when ICE is in the area. The goal is to “prevent as many people from being kidnapped as possible.”

no it fucking *won't* this is gullible rube bullshit on par with "the cybertruck will also be operable as a boat."

lab "meat" grows like tumors, not muscle. also, geniuses, the protein it uses is still sourced from animals.

and even if both those things were magically fixed, it could never scale
I think what is going to happen is that lab-grown meat will gradually catch up with real animals and when that happens we will all quietly admit that the vegans were right about factory farming
i'm convinced if we ever tried to touch the rail of meat politics in America (something that's going to eventually need to happen in order to reduce CO2 emissions), it would lead to a huge right-wing shock

So there's this thing called the Exeter Book, it's a codex from 1072 that's basically some rich guy's mixtape of Old English poetry. The interesting thing is it's heavily water damaged in the back half so the closer you get to the end of the book the more and more of each page is just missing

I talked to an animal trainer once who'd worked with orcas and told me about a time another trainer got injured in the pool and the orcas spent a few days imitating his thrashing, like they were laughing about it

"All of that is insane and no one has reacted enough" top spot goes down to *knocking down the fucking White House* obviously, but number two has to be J.Lo getting back with Ben Affleck only to lose him by making the most embarrassing movie of all time. There's a making-of documentary!

Congrats to the Dodgers. Going to have that dream again where Aaron Boone falls into the Hudson, and I stand upon the bridge I pushed him from, laughing and clapping. Cashman stands nearby, now aware how serious I am.

Well it was an amazing World Series and a reminder that baseball despite its faults is probably the greatest sport invented by man, and also I hope all Dodgers fans are stricken with painful sores and tumors, and cast into hellfire, for eternity
