For decades, the relationship between LGBTQ students and UWM authorities was filled with surveillance, violence, and other forms of systemic oppression.

Check out this Story Map chronicling the evolution of this complicated relationship from the 1970s to today:

Penzeys is my hometown spice company, and I have the utmost respect for their business and how they source things. They’re a great company to support!
PENZEYS SPICES

📣Penzeys is having a sale ahead of the owner having to raise prices because of Trump's tariffs. (And phew!! that I learned about it in time!)

If you already use Penzeys, you know what I'm sharing this information!

If you don't, what a great chance to get on that!

Found out from news media yesterday that 9 of our international students got the double hit of canceled visas and deleted SEVIS profiles.

Still no message from our administration.

Will try to find out today whether the students’s departments were at least informed. #highered

I dunno, I just think if you are a college administrator you should only use the phrase "we cannot protect you" vis-a-vis immigrant students if it is part of your resignation letter.

Columbia has a $14.8 billion endowment. They gave up all of this for $400 million in federal funding. And now that they've given all this up, we all know that Trump will keep demanding more concessions. They've sunk themselves when at any time they could have just said... no.
"Columbia agreed to ban masks, empower 36 campus police officers with new powers to arrest students and appoint a senior vice provost with broad authority to oversee the department of Middle East, South Asian and African Studies as well as the Center for Palestine Studies."

I hope now, at least, people will stop talking about how universities are these left wing spaces dominated by flag waving Marxists--these are profoundly conservative institutions helmed and run by profoundly conservative people. No one else makes into leadership.
So it seems Columbia gave the Trump administration everything they wanted and more, including a new "vice provost" who will review curriculum, hiring, and leadership.

Our future
Just saw a great presentation on a community archaeology project that ended with the speaker announcing that their NSF grant was being reviewed because of “outreach to disadvantaged communities” and that his publicly funded university is eliminating their Anthropology major due to PA lege pressure.

While the faculty annual review process can sometimes feel onerous, I have such profound gratitude for my colleagues who review the materials.

I’m adding this year’s to my “Boost” folder-the collection of nice things said about me/my work that I can look at during those tough moments. #highered

This is how they manage the loss of migrants doing agricultural work - they send everyone with mental health concerns to do it instead.
RFK Jr said he wants to send folks who are taking antidepressants and ADHD medications to "wellness farms" in rural America where they will be forced to labor by growing organic food to "cure their addictions."
