Americans really have no idea how badly things are going or much of what is actually happening outside of the increasingly sealed American unreality state. The increasingly clear collapse of collective sense making is breaking containment fully.
JD Vance's steady assertion of hostile claims against Greenland, which rarely ever rate a mention in US newspapers, are front page news across northern Europe.

For years, people argued that there's no point in taking climate action unless China is onboard. I'm at a COP30 event where Chinese government officials and renewable industry reps are outlining the fast-paced renewable energy transition and long-term carbon neutrality plan. The story has flipped.

I read the word “petromasculinity” and it really had a ring of truth. It’s like guns and individuality and other toxic elements in our society. A warped image of the self dictating the policy.
By turning it into a cultural issue rather than a material one with only one cogent side
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

$1,000 per month here in CO. I didn’t get a $12,000 raise. This is killing is (plus adding an elderly family member hasn’t helped).
Average family is spending $700/MONTH MORE under Trump and The Republicans.
#Democrats on the congressional #JointEconomicCommittee released a report Thursday detailing how much MORE the average #American family in every US state is having to spend MONTHLY to cover the rising costs of #food, #shelter, #energy, and other necessities

For any other president this would be heralded as the disastrous policy failure of a floundering and indecisive chief executive
So let me get this right, Trump’s plan was:

1. Tariff everything to help the economy (it didn’t)

2. Claim consumers aren’t paying tariffs (we are)

3. Panic & roll back food tariffs b/c you created an affordability crisis (we told you)

Arsonist claiming to be a firefighter.
Trump Implements Major Rollback of Food Tariffs
The president moved to lower duties on beef, coffee and dozens of other goods, as he looks for ways to address Americans’ concerns about the cost of living.

Seriously, people. You can think whatever thoughts you want silently. Know that your joke was a total banger! Then don’t type it because while it’s true that the internet isn’t as indelible as we were told, it’s delible enough to be a real world problem for you today.
especially in these incredibly high tension times, you should simply not make even super obvious jokes about killing people on social media websites imo

and I get why websites like Bluesky are taking this stuff rather seriously at this particular point in time, personally

We should return to a normal state of immigration/migration where people move to places that they'd like to live and then move again if they'd like to live somewhere else.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Paid a Colombian tea grower $1,500 for a shipment. Got billed $150 by the Trump administration at the border. *I* got billed. Not the tea growers. Not the Colombian government. Me. The American business owner. I paid the Trump tax.

As I sometimes like to mention, s the only reason you know who Jeffrey Epstein is (that is, if you weren't one of his friends/clients/beneficiaries) is because Ms Brown, below, broke the story of his sweetheart deal to get out of the 2008 trafficking charges.

Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.

ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

Or NSA agents.
Actual mathematicians tend to be lovely little weirdos in my experience
Most mathematicians aren't that bad!

They just want to quietly work out their obscure proofs in peace, interrupted occasionally to teach a few hundred engineers basic calculus to keep the lights on and food on the table.

Child me learned to read early and I loved Misty of Chincoteague. Young me read and reread The Hero and the Crown. Young adult me enjoyed the hell out of Youth in Revolt. Older me is still thinking about The Once and Future Witches. Books have shaped my whole life.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Youth, joy, hope, and moral clarity shine in a field of dreary technocrats and oatmeal-flavored centrists. Give me somebody that believes in something! Somebody that risks being wrong. Somebody REAL.
This point absolutely correct and I will add that Mamdani demonstrates that an insurgency, even one with real moral clarity and anger at the status quo, can still be cheerful and inviting.

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

Lessons from the Tea Party here. MTG and Gaetz wouldn’t made it out of the late night comedy shorts before Obama.
There’s a two party duopoly in this nation.

Is it great? No! Is it reality? Yes.

Creating a third party means building up an entirely new infrastructure from scratch and then fighting both R & D.

Taking over the Dem Party is an easier and more effective route. It’ll take time, but it’s worth it.

Men like this are transphobes because they are, deep down, misogynists. They simply believe they are better than women at everything, and in trans women they have found a group it is alright to descriminate against. This man believes cis women are his physical inferiors, and needs you to know that.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

I also haven’t forgotten all of those Trump nominations that my Senators confirmed. I have voted Democrat tickets since 1996 and am honestly considering registering. The Democrats do no represent me or my values AT ALL.
The correct thing to do is to make every Senate Democrat beg for mercy. They’re all guilty. If not for this vote, then for letting Schumer remain leader after the previous nonsense in March.
I mean they do fear the base, which is why people who are not in the immediate line of fire didn't vote for this. They just don't think there's a large splash zone for that rage or that it will last until they're on the block

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.
