Ok, one last minute bit of retrospective:

I am so happy this was the year I finally earned my regalia. If you're defending this next year, don't give up hope!

Sometimes I ponder if I should stop taking my phone into the washroom with me; is it screen addiction? But then I remember in 5th grade I would take in a Calvin and Hobbes anthology and sit there for just as long as I do now.

Well, I was disappointed enough with last night's political fumble that I got out a pad and a fountain pen and wrote a physical ass letter to Schumer letting him know how angry and disgusted I was with his latest Charlie-Brown run at the football.

Unbelievable.

If you're not playing your DnD characters like this, what are we even doing here?

I am once again putting out there the analogy of dragons: unsympathetic hoarders of wealth extracted via great violence to the populace which they sit on and do nothing. And we celebrate cultural narratives where this wealth is forcefully reclaimed and distributed among the people.
Something deeply fucked up when you can blindly break basic state functions and condemn millions to death and then people make you the richest man in the world instead of a pariah

Applications are open for IUC's 10-month Japanese language program. I'm glad to answer any questions about my time there. I pivoted during the pandemic and enrolled the year I turned 40, so it's possible for a wide range of students. iuc.fsi.stanford.edu/programs-10M

And now, a physical metaphor for "LLMs can be just as good as human writers and artists!"

(And I know, I shared it twice. But it's just that nice!)
just....enjoy this

I'm finally reading Frankenstein in anticipation of seeing the new film, and I'm just like "where did the Hollywood version of this story come from?" The Creature shows up and is spitting poetry to admonish Victor. I'm much more excited to see this version on film than the "fire bad" version.

Ok, voting complete. Only some local offices like mayor and city clerk, but school board was on there, so important to keep Maga out of that.

I've discovered that I write with taigen-dome 体言止め (ending on a noun) a lot when I write Japanese poems. I don't know what it signifies, but it's an interesting style choice to notice in myself.

I bought the MYST humble bundle, but already had the MYST: Masterpiece Edition in my steam library already. If there's a play scholar that wants it for their library, DM me for my key.

So I've decided that I'm going to do my own November writing challenge, but it will all be #poetry. Probably mostly #senryū or #kyōka, but maybe some English verse.

Anyway, this will be the start of the mega thread. Here's the start of it from yesterday.
A little #senryū to sum up my experience of November 1st.

This is what my earlier senryū was about. When I was in Yokohama I had to walk through Landmark tower to get to class. Literally between 8pm on Oct 1 and 8am on Nov 1, the entire mall had been redecorated and there was a 60ft Christmas tree display up.

Going to bed, but if I wake up and El Dumpo has levied more Canada tariffs because of the Bluejays and my Murchie's Tea shipment gets delayed, I will be peeved.

I'm cheering for them to clinch it, though. Win-win for me either way, really, being from LA.

It was a fun night on my own last night while Lizzy was working (sadly). But now she's done working and we can focus on cleaning the house and then packing for that thing I can't announce yet because the paperwork is still finalizing...
We are all set up for whatever trick-or-treaters brave the cold and the wind. I've had a little over a dozen this first hour.
