the Epstein files make it very clear why the MeToo backlash was so extreme and why so much of elite society preferred Donald Trump ruling us like a king to the barest hint of accountability

Mass literacy threatens the oligarchy.

Read a book. Discuss its themes. Build community and critical thinking and drink tea or coffee and plan your resistance, whether it’s through connection or protest.

They gave this man permanent brain damage. He “has no family in Minnesota and coworkers have taken him in.”

Fuck the racist fucks that want the kindest, pro-social people in this benighted country driven out of it.
The vast majority of ICE’s violence is never reported on. The only reason more people haven’t died is luck. They’re using lethal force on a regular basis.

Every detail in this story is sickening.

Everything sucks. Walk your dog. Call a friend to laugh or an elected official to demand change. Color; read; draw; organize your D&D dice. Shred something to get that pent-up rage out, then toss it like confetti to cheer yourself up. Then you’ll have something to clean. Just don’t buy anything.

There have been many journalists arrested in the US before. I'm one of them.

This is still very different. Lemon wasn't arrested as part of a mass of arrests of people surrounding a protest as it was happening and released (as I was). Lemon is being re-arrested for having covered a protest.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

One of the big unspoken impacts on GenX is that a huge part of the progressive moral heart of the generation was killed by AIDS.
Backing up The Argument in NYT/Siena, Gen X still has an astonishing 49% approval for Trump (!), while Boomers have dipped to 42%.

Gen X is currently tracking at 12 pts to the right of the electorate on the generic ballot. Now 9 pts to the right of Boomers, which has to be the largest gap ever.

Theater Blog Roundup: Looking Back in Anger
The war on culture has played out in many ways over the past year, as chronicled by the bloggers/substackers,podcasters to whom I link below. There’s famously the mess at the Kennedy Center, but also a theater company “blacklisted”/defunded by a state arts council; a student production canceled because of a new state anti-DEI law; a “visa freeze” that’s wreaking havoc on international cultural exchange. Commenters look too at the way that theater has been responding. The theater blogosphere’s look back at 2025 is not all about outrage. There are Top 10 and Year in Review posts by

Congresswoman @ayannapressley.bsky.social has been trying to get qualified immunity eliminated her ENTIRE career.

What the fuck is it going to take to get people to listen to her?
There's no ICE accountability without ending qualified immunity.

They're murdering people. There won't be justice for the lives they've stolen, but there must be accountability.

My bill with @markey.senate.gov would ensure families can sue the agents murdering their loved ones.

Is “but he shouldn’t have had a gun” the resistance-coded equivalent to “but what was she wearing” ?

…it feels like prompting the widespread dehumanizing of victims whose humanity was denied by the perpetrators, and hence that denial of humanity was at the heart of the crime.

The US Catholic Church is not playing right now. It was fun to hang out with the local bishops yesterday dropping the 🔥 about how we should treat other humans & how this ain't it!!!
Wow— “Cardinal Tobin told hundreds of faithful gathered online that now is the time to say no — no to violence, no to indifference, and no to funding the U.S. government’s own “machinery of death.”

Imagine a paramilitary gang kills 2 observers over 2 weeks, then shows up at your home to say, "You, observer, we know where you live."

That's a death threat.

If it happened to me or a colleague when I was a human rights observer in N. Ireland, we would've lodged complaints with three govts.
One human rights observer in Maine said agents followed her home, blocked off her street, and came to her door to say they know where she lives. Her children are now staying elsewhere, to keep them safe.
Now in Maine: ICE watchers say federal agents are coming to their house to threaten and intimidate them.

The only way to deal with him is to stand up to him — and the only way to stand up to him is by joining together against him.

It's time for a massive general strike across the country.

Hurting people is easy. It's lazy. Anyone can do it with the right tools and the wrong morals.

Protecting people is hard. It takes restraint and courage and empathy. They will never have that. So they can never win, in the end. Minneapolis will win.

Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum.

Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum.

ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

Teach students to think critically, creatively, & empathetically.
