Broadway Thanksgiving Week Schedule 2025
Below is the Broadway schedule for Thanksgiving Week 2025, which differs from the usual week’s schedule: Only one show of the 34 currently playing has a performance on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27th (Chicago), but many have added performances throughout the rest of the week, especially Monday evenings, and matinees on Friday. And, on Thanksgiving Day, after all, there’s the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The 99th edition of the annual parade will also of course feature the Radio City Rockettes who this year are celebrating their 100th anniversary, as well as musical and dance performances from the casts of Broadway's s…

How “Wicked: For Good” was built: Director Jon Chu + 8 film crew
Alice Brooks has an unusual way of talking about the difference between 'Wicked" and its sequel "Wicked: For Good.," which is opening nationwide today. The making of the two Wicked movies was such a vast and intimidating process – shooting in 17 sound stages over I55 days – that, to get started, Brooks, the cinematographer for both movie, assigned a single word for each scene to express its “emotional intention.” “For the first movie, those words were yearning and longing and power and friendship and choice. And for the second movie, they were sacrifice and surrender and separation and consequence.

Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) Broadway Review
What I found most surprising about this modest, appealing two-person musical, whose title more or less sums up what happens, was the reaction to it on the night I attended – the ecstatic cheers at the start; the mobbed stage door afterwards. The show’s social media marketing campaign won over a couple waiting at the stage door, they told me, but they also just liked the show.  I liked it as well, but I might be doing the musical a disservice by mentioning the audience enthusiasm, because it could set up misleading expectations.

This World of Tomorrow Review. Tom Hanks writes a play.
Tom Hanks co-wrote this quaint, unremarkable time-traveling play adapted from his book of short stories, and stars as Bert Allenberry, a tech entrepreneur from the year 2089, who travels back to the 1939 New York World’s Fair, where he spots Carmen Perry (Kelli O’Hara) and becomes besotted with her, returning again and again to June 8, 1939 to spend time with her.  Before the play begins, the ushers handed each of us a button that says “I Have Seen The Future,” which is what visitors received after attending Futurama, a diorama and ride at the General Motors Pavilion in the 1939 Fair that imagined what America would be like in the year 1960.

Talking About a Revolution. Stageworthy News of the Week
"The American Revolution" launched last night (You can binge all six episodes online now or wait for the nightly broadcast.)Revolution was also on stage last week in various ways. Series creator Ken Burns and Lin-Manuel Miranda talked about it together before hundreds of public school students. Off-Broadway, “Archduke” featured self-proclaimed revolutionaries. On Broadway, even “Oedipus” has been reconfigured so that the kind is now a modern politician who presents himself as the father of a new movement. This comes at a time when, as Burns put it, there is “a sense that our divisions will somehow destroy us,” but he points out: “The story of the American Revolution is that we were as divided then as ever.

Oedipus Broadway Review
It’s early on Election Day, and Oedipus, populist candidate confident that he’ll be swept into office, makes two off-the-cuff public promises that will blow up in his face: He will release his birth certificate, and he will investigate the death of his predecessor Laius, whose widow, Jocasta, is now Oedipus’s wife. In his modern adaptation of Sophocles’ 2,500-year-old play, writer and director Robert Icke makes two promises of his own to the audience, in a production now on Broadway that stands out for its exceptional cast, with performances of remarkable intensity by Mark Strong as Oedipus and especially Lesley Manville as Jocasta, making a much-welcomed Broadway debut.

Archduke Review
‘If I had to choose between being known while alive or being known while dead, I gotta go with dead,” says Gavrilo, the teenager who will soon assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand and start World War I. “Cause I’ll be dead forever. So that means: Remembered forever.” But few in the audience “Archduke,” a play by Rajiv Joseph opening tonight at Roundabout’s Laura Pels theater, will have remembered the name Gavrilo Princip -- or that of his co-conspirators, or know much about the complicated geopolitics that turned them into killers. Joseph is banking on our ignorance, because he has used the historical event to create an absurd black comedy that is neither historically accurate nor especially illuminating.

In honor of Veterans Day, below is a list of ten works of theater depicting military veterans, ranging from Ancient Greek tragedies and Shakespearean history plays to Quiara Alegría Hudes' Off-Broadway trilogy and a pair of Broadway musicals. Veterans Day is a national holiday every November 11th, because that was the date in 1918 -- to be precise, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of that year -- when the armistice was signed that ended World War I. Armistice Day was celebrated until 1954, when Congress renamed it Veterans Day, intended to honor all U.S.

Queen of Versailles Broadway Review
“The Queen of Versailles,” Stephen Schwartz’s latest musical, which stars Kristin Chenoweth as the real-life billionaire’s wife Jackie Siegel, comes far closer to Jackie’s favorite childhood TV show, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” than to the morality tale about the pursuit of the American Dream that it tries to be. The production is impressively designed and wonderfully acted; the show has a pleasant enough new score by a high-profile composer who’s on a roll (his 1976 musical The Baker’s Wife is opening later this week Off-Broadway, and Wicked: For Good is being released later this month.) But it doesn’t adequately answer for me Sondheim’s essential question: Why should this be a musical?

Before the start of this R&B musical comedy about Barack Obama’s first term as president, Eli Bauman, its creator and director, bustled out on stage to urge us to ignore what’s “out there” and just “have fun in here.”What was happening out there at that moment -- since I was seeing “44 The Musical” on Election Day – turned out to be a Democratic sweep, which was not something I wanted to ignore.  But by “out there,” Bauman, who knocked on doors for the first Obama campaign in 2008, evidently means the general dread and disappointment of life under Trump.

"This will be an age where New Yorkers expect from their leaders a bold vision of what we will achieve, rather than a list of excuses for what we are too timid to attempt," Zohran Mamdani, just elected as the 111th mayor of New York City, said in his victory speech. "Central to that vision will be the most ambitious agenda to tackle the cost of living crisis that this city has seen since the days of Fiorello LaGuardia-- an agenda that will freeze the rents for more than two million rent stabilized tenants, make busses fast and free, and deliver universal child care across our city.
