It's not necessarily the exact wording I'd use to describe it, but the thing I take it to describe is atheists who come from a cultural context in which Christian belief and practice far outweighs that of other religions, and for whom such culture is the assumed default.

If you want to talk about strawmen, where are you getting the idea that she's talking about *all* atheists? Why, then, the need to specify "Christian-centric"? She's clearly addressing a subset which she understands to have a limited framework with which to conceptualize religion and its absence.

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

The situation is made even worse by government policies and rhetorics. Traffickers use it to tell young people that they are the only ones who can be trusted. "Look at what they are saying about you. They want to lock you up...". Guaranteed that Mahmood's hostility last week will be being used now.

Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Elon Musk appears to be the most insecure human being in human history. Money can't buy you love.
I asked grok who was the better role model for humanity, Jesus Christ or Elon Musk. GUESS WHAT.

Labour’s “we have to do it, or racism will get worse” argument is striking. Any other public policy failures British ethnic minorities should be on the hook for? Can we be blamed en bloc for Rachel Reeves’ budget next week too? www.ft.com/content/37b0...
Defence of Labour asylum policy reveals backsliding on racism
Home secretary’s framing of failures is partly low politics, but also a result of ministers’ poor approach to race relations

Like, the only surprise has been how enthusiastically they've done Reform's work for them. I expected them to be shite, but not to so efficiently lay the groundwork for the ascendent far right while simultaneously shooting themselves in both feet.

Yes, it's been pretty tiresome reading all the "it's hard to believe Labour approval is so low a mere X days into their leadership" stories, given that it was plainly obvious from day one that the last general election was lost by the Conservatives rather than won by Labour.

But you're absolutely right – as far as I can tell, there's really no practical benefit to it for general use. There would be some limited application to having displays integrated into windows, but it would be exactly that: a window with a feature, not the way all screens are now.
November 16, 2025 at 9:39 AM
It's not just handheld devices; see-through screens in general is a visual shorthand for "futuristic". I guess it's a way of taking the mundane and changing it enough to make it feel unfamiliar in a visually striking way, while keeping it recognizable enough to know what it is.
November 16, 2025 at 9:36 AM
Exactly. Even if you want to go down the cynical "whatever it takes to win" route, you have to be able to convince the electorate that you believe what you're saying, which is by no means a universal skill among politicians. Nobody likes feeling like they're voting for an empty vessel.

When we first started going out, my partner lived in this flat which could most kindly be described as "bohemian". The kitchen wall had an intricate pattern of damp that acted as a bit of a Rorschach test. There was an upside-down giraffe and a devil face half-hidden in shadow.
