Switching from an omnivorous to a vegan diet can reduce daily greenhouse gas emissions by 46%, while also lowering land and water use and maintaining nutritional balance.
Vegan diet can halve your carbon footprint, study finds
Only around 1.1% of the world's population is vegan, but this percentage is growing. For example, in Germany the number of vegans approximately doubled between 2016 and 2020 to 2% of the population, while a 2.4-fold increase between 2023 and 2025 to 4.7% of the population has been reported in the UK.

Yet more evidence of the multiple benefits of diet shifts towards more, or only, plant foods!

"The indicators clearly highlight the environmental and health advantages of plant-based diets compared with the omnivorous baseline."

The arrow worms are back! Chaetognatha are relatively large carnivorous predators of the plankton (although some are omnivorous) that appear around autumn to feast on smaller zooplankton like copepods! I had lots in my sample this week!

Danny Brown made one of the most creatively adventurous, sonically progressive, and best rap albums of the year.

@sonraw.bsky.social went deep on the experimental hyperpop fusion, omnivorous eclecticism, and sense of liberation of "Stardust."

It'd be interesting to see how closely people's diets line up with their therotype θΔ. Funny to me that out of the 3 therians I know personally, the two prey species are vegan and the one predator species is omnivorous, lol.

Wonder what that says about scavenger species...

Shouldn’t that be omnivorous?

The Malabar giant squirrel (Ratufa indica) can reach lengths of 18" and weights of 6.6 lb! Its extra-long tail is used as a counterbalance as it scurries through the treetops. This omnivorous squirrel can be spotted in parts of Asia, including India, Singapore, and Indonesia.

If we are naturally omnivorous, like you say, then why are we the only "omnivore" who needs a slaughterhouse, weapons to kill and eat animals?

Authors are so creative, I swear. Really enjoying the omnivorous, clawed, fierce "horses" that hack up owl pellets in Queen Demon by @marthawells.com A delightful, unexpected take. 😁

This charming if hagiographic article about Cormac McCarthy's insanely huge personal library and the overwhelmed scholars trying to go through it is full of unexpectedly funny evidence of the man's omnivorous curiosity. /v @meganabbott.bsky.social www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture...

Aaannd we’re back to me wanting to hit the author.

Dark coats may have helped the earliest small mammals hide from predatory omnivorous dinosaurs: the spots and stripes familiar to us did not emerge until later in mammalian evolution…

1/3 #speciesaday no. 659 is Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio). A large, long-lived freshwater fish introduced here centuries ago. Omnivorous and incredibly destructive to plant and invertebrate life in ponds. The lake at Woods Mill used to look like chocolate milk shake until they were removed.

Why am I vegan even though my theriotype is omnivorous?

Being born in this body gives me an opportunity to choose to do less harm & to respect consent. An opportunity many animals don't have.

If I am have an opportunity to do less harm & doing so will not harm me, I always take that opportunity.

New semester has been absolutely flooring me, but somehow I tend to draw more when I've got more stressful junk bothering me. So here I unveil an old personal species I made a year ago and recently redrew to make them fatter because its more fun to hug that way. (Lore in Alt-Text)

The song sketches... I can draw from ANY type of music as I'm also pretty omnivorous myself with genres.. but I lean toward more electronic or heavier stuff? And man I barely got requests with that type of music so I think that added in VERY SMALL part to the burnout x)

Javan slow lorises (Nycticebus javanicus) are arboreal, nocturnal, omnivorous, slow-moving, and VENOMOUS! Because of their inability to leap, they need vines and lianas to connect from tree to tree. Heavily hunted for the illegal pet trade and their body parts. Critically Endangered.
