Republicans now : we have to deescalate
Republicans then :

They can’t actually deescalate because the whole administration is staffed with edgelord trolls.
What could possibly go wrong?

Opinion | To deescalate in Minnesota, Republicans need to stop killing people in the streets, and Democrats need to stop talking about the ones they've already killed.

Who should deescalate, Tim?
January 28, 2026 at 11:50 AM
I do not believe Donald trump is going to deescalate. Not one damn bit.

Minutes after getting praised by corporate media for claiming—without evidence—that he'd deescalate his attacks on Minnesota, Trump libeled Congresswoman Omar, she was attacked in public by an assailant spraying an unknown substance, and the stochastic terrorist-in-chief responded to that with this:

Gotta show that they're capable of acting like professionals who can control and deescalate by gassing a preschool like it's 2nd fucking Ypres.
Video from this morning shows ICE agents deploying tear gas outside a Minneapolis preschool as parents shout, “This is a preschool! There’s kids here!”

I will never forget…

🔘 3 shots fired on Renée Good
🔘 10 shots fired on Alex Pretti
🔘 41 shots fired on Amadou Diallo

and the Boss’ tributes.

Just wanted to check in with corporate media to see how its breathless reporting on Trump "wanting" to deescalate his attack on Minnesota is going

I saw this recent post from Trump—from *after* all that positive press—and wanted to ask CNN and the others if this is deescalation
January 29, 2026 at 5:23 AM
Remember when people thought Trump could manage to deescalate a situation?

Yeahhhhh...
Trump: "Surprisingly, Mayor Frey just stated that, “Mpls does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws" ... Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!"

Trump said he wanted to deescalate his actions in Minnesota that he escalated. A week ago he encouraged escalation by saying ICE had not gone far enough. He’s all over the place. He never takes any accountability. Never will. Trump is 100% responsible for the murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti
January 28, 2026 at 2:12 PM
Seriously. Not only was he trained to deescalate, he also isn't a murderous psychopath.
January 28, 2026 at 5:33 PM
Trump: "Minnesota is in the news a lot, but what they don't say is that Minnesota has low number because of the fact that we took thousands of hardened criminals out of Minnesota. So they have good crime numbers believe it or not ... we're gonna deescalate a bit."

Doesn't Cook know anyone in the White House who could deescalate the situation?
Apple CEO Tim Cook became the latest executive to weigh in on the ICE killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, telling employees he is “heartbroken” by the events and calling for a “deescalation.” bloom.bg/4anMn7d

"You hear that, you tensions? Deescalate now!"
INBOX: 60+ CEOs of Minnesota-based company call for "an immediate deescalation of tensions and for state, local and federal officials to work together to find real solutions."

No mention of ICE in the letter.

The truth is mundane. No one is breaking the law. We have trained ourselves to observe and deescalate, not obstruct. We are not agitators, we are here to protect our neighbors. There is no harm in revealing this, especially about Alex, who is now beyond their evil reach. It honors his memory.

In Minnesota, the only thing you can be sure of when you hear the word “deescalate“ is that the speaker really wants to talk about something else (Greenland? Affordability? Maybe the Super Bowl?). The speaker is looking to deescalate their discomfort. 5/6

I just wrote my Senator and told her that the proposed measures to rein in ICE is not going to deescalate anything and Dems who vote for funding will be seen as complicit in the continued violence.
January 29, 2026 at 1:48 PM
The "they aren't properly trained to deescalate" line is going to make my head explode. They don't WANT to deescalate! There was nothing TO deescalate until they showed up. THEY ARE THE FUCKING ESCALATION!

Media on right and left call for Trump to deescalate in Minneapolis https://twp.ai/4ivQot
January 27, 2026 at 12:52 PM
“Deescalate a little” is the new “in two weeks.” You’d think the legacy media would have picked up on this by now.
Federal deployment to Minneapolis "is steady state and expected to continue as planned," per Border Patrol memo leaked to me
January 28, 2026 at 10:01 AM
The media verdict is in: Trump is chastened by the backlash to the ICE murders of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. He is is attempting to “deescalate.”

Yet he doesn’t appear to want those armed militias to stop doing the things that are causing those clashes in the first place... trib.al/KnNo6Bk
