#Gafcon
I did resist the urge to make the title of this video clickbait. It does have some info about how the GAFCON communique was put together and that only 7 of 12 Primates on the GAFCON Council were on the Zoom call to approve it. So it's spilling the tea, a bit, but from a very elegant cup
If you, like me, do not know much about global Anglican political machinations, you’re in luck! I had the Rev. Mark Michael, editor-in-chief of The Living Church, on to provide context and analysis of this GAFCON moment ⚓️

That Living Church article about the GAFCON communique is like, "How y'all gonna be hating from outside the club? You can't even get in!" ⚓

One would have a hard time convincing me that this whole thing -- GAFCON, ACNA, all of it -- hasn't been a well-funded political project from the very beginning. These kinds of people don't just randomly turn up.

I missed it but it looks like at least part of GAFCON has formally schismed from Canterbury?
Little evidence so far that Anglican leaders plan to join GAFCON in leaving Anglican Communion
[Episcopal News Service] The GAFCON statement’s potential impact was evident as soon as it landed Oct. 16. It immediately provoked intense reactions in Anglican circles around the world. The conser…

The ACNA abuse chaos continues. Will GAFCON/GAC intervene? Archbishop Wood now accused of sexual misconduct and abuse of power. Friends still in the ACNA, consider leaving (I did) or at least not giving money until they fix their abuse issues, which appear to be structural archive.is/UB1Fq

I'm going to guess this guy would be aligned with the part of the Anglican church that didn't want a woman as leader... GAFCON

Because yes, please do tell me about the hundreds of not thousands of Anglican women accused of child sex abuse.

Crickets? Thought so!

Anglican Church Archbishop accused of sexual misconduct
Archbishop Steve Wood, who heads the Anglican Church of North America, faces sexual harassment allegations. This marks the latest in a string of crises to rock the small, conservative denomination.

Are you Episcopalian-Anglican or GAFCON-"true" Anglican?
Found a pro-Cuomo woman who had previously ran for City Council herself, and she really wants Zohran to clarify whether he is specifically Shi'a or not

I wonder how you mime “Let’s do a special issue on Anglican Communion ecclesiology post-GAFCON”
October 21, 2025 at 1:47 PM
There are 4 young guys who are housemates, 2 who come to my church and 2 to the ACNA church. They all 4 come to our evening service (despite gafcon fanfare), which I think is beautiful

Divisions among Anglicans, while not new, “require urgent attention and repair”, the secretary-general of the Anglican Consultative Council, the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo, has said

Gafcon doesn’t have the power to create a new Anglican communion.

This one has been a long time coming, with GAFCON (Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans) vocally discontent about various "rejections of biblical authority" (female ordination and same-sex marriage, primarily). But looks like they finally pulled the trigger.

Yup, autonomous, conservative branches of the American/Canadian Episcopalian/Anglican church have joined GAFCON in the schism, after breaking off by themselves previously, I believe.

Schisms all the way down
as I understand it the Episcopalians, who are Anglicans who didn't want to keep calling themselves the English Church after the American Revolution, have also been splintering for a while because the more conservative branches were putting themselves under the now-schismatic conservative bishops

If there are #gafcon parishes in England or Wales, how does this work for parochial fees?
October 18, 2025 at 11:50 PM
I'm not up to date on my Anglican sectarianism. Do I understand correctly that GAFCON is the reactionary force here and they're mad that CoE recognizes women and queer people? Also, it seems that GAFCON wants to be global but is defacto primarily African?

That is assuming you accept that the GAFCON clergy "represent" their congregations at all, since the politics they have that they split over are all the kind of reactionary shit that is invariably imposed from the top down wherever it appears
October 18, 2025 at 8:30 AM
GAFCON are claiming to represent "upwards of 85%" of global Anglicans. Based on the absolute numbers they're claiming and the actual number of Anglicans in communion with Canterbury before the schism, they actually represent ~44%
October 18, 2025 at 8:30 AM
Someone else in the quote tweets said "GAFCON will probably just call themselves 'the real Anglicans'" and yeah, they're asserting that *they're* the Anglican Communion and the churches in the actual Anglican Communion are schisming from them. Loser shit
Can they still be considered Anglicans if they’re not in communion with Canterbury? Do they automatically become a new sect?
October 18, 2025 at 8:24 AM
