Whenever a Republican says "the little guy" this is who they have in mind
This may be the best encapsulation of Republican 'Populism' imaginable. A picture is worth a thousand words and I can basically quite writing about it

Little known fact. The tenets of “Gorilla War” were first introduced in the Harambe Code.

"The history of Rahner-interpretation, from his first supporters through his most recent detractors, is largely a history of betrayal. And it is not just a betrayal of Rahner, but of the Catholicism to which he dedicated his life."

It’s really baffling. I’ve said this before, but the assumption of almost 100% of our media seems to be that a guy who went to Yale Law School could not possibly be a Nazi, and so there’s nothing to look into.
Perhaps the most infamous moment of the 2024 campaign - an open effort by Vance to demagogue Haitians - was lifted directly from a specific Nazi source, which he openly reads. Zero curiosity from our leaders about any of it. Nothing to see here, I guess.

I am glad someone is confronting head-on the paper tiger of Catholic Conservatism, Inc.'s make-believe exegetical school and its obscurantist dismissal of actual scholarship. In reality, the Steubenville School is not so much Catholic as it is fundamentalist-evangelical-in-fiddleback
Grenade thrown (at Scott Hahn). It's so good.

"From Vatican II to the turn of the millennium, the best known Catholic Bible scholar, classroom to pew, was Raymond Brown. Today, the best known Catholic Bible scholar among Catholic laity is Scott Hahn.."

The immanent contradiction of dominance masculinity is that it both claims absolute authority and strength and also cannot countenance even the slightest challenge.
We need to talk about the rise of "smol bean fascism" where you have all the guns and the immunity but the really scary people are the ones with whistles and phone cameras and they're giving you generational trauma and ptsd by filming you killing people for no reason

Please read this tremendous piece by my buddy Jules
I wrote about how studying Marx, the Black Radical tradition, and the Cappadocian Fathers led me to rediscover my faith, forgive the woman who killed my mother, embrace prison abolition, and champion the idea that none are saved unless *all* are saved!

just accidentally saw "Larry Chapp" ranting and raving about "a runaway Rahnerianism gone to seed" and "clerical dung beetles like Cupich, Tobin, and McElroy" while insisting we just inject Balthasar read in the fundamentalist manner straight into our veins and don't ask questions

actually probably there might be some use for corny self-flagellating devotional prayers about how you personally killed Jesus because it's better to live like that than to live however the "sin of empathy" pagans do

A Thomist for today's feast: Georges Chehata Anawati, an Egyptian Melkite Dominican, disciple of Jacques Maritain and student of M.D. Chenu, who died today in 1994. His vocation was the Catholic ressourcement of Islamic philosophy and he directly influenced the Council's teachings on Islam.

I'm not very good at the economy but I'm pretty sure inaugurating a new friendship and strong economics with China is a great step after running on anti-America/anti-Trump lmao
Bessent: "I'd encourage Carney to do what he thinks is best for Canadians, not his own virtue signaling. We do have a USMCA negotiation coming up. He rose to power on an anti-American, anti-Trump message. That's not a great place to be when you're negotiating w/ an economy multiples larger than you"

You know I’ve been thinking maybe we need to cool it with millennial/zoomer self-congratulation given what age group actually has kids and is then refusing to vaccinate their children
(CNN) - The fast-growing measles outbreak in South Carolina is now the largest in the United States since the disease was declared eliminated in this country more than two decades ago.

I'm starting to suspect that most theologians talking about Karl Rahner and other religions just get stuck on the "anonymous Christianity" stuff which is such a minor (and misunderstood!) part of his corpus that they miss how much more relevant his theologies of grace, symbol, embodiment, etc. are

The Frankfurt School did all this hard work on elucidating the authoritarian personality and Tim Pool just tweeted it out
Tim Pool: “I’m not licking the boot. It’s my boot. I voted for it. I’m the one stomping…”

This mindset is genuinely pathetic.

It’s an alpha fantasy: watching state violence and imagining you’re exercising power rather than the one submitting to it.

James O’Keefe responds to a comment

“Figured they (ICE protesters) were being paid…”

O’Keefe:

“No, it's more terrifying than that. It's not transactional.

They actually believe in their cause.

That truth is going to be hard for most people to understand or accept.”
