👋 Hey Bluesky! I'm Josh. Currently raising 3 little kids (7,5,2.5yo) w/my wife, working as a software dev, and figuring out what, if anything, to do with my theology degrees (MDiv, MA [PhD dropout]) and Holy Orders. I love learning, coffee, books, pen(cil)s, paper, tools, & DIY home/auto repair.
Fill-in the blank: “Nothing makes me doubt the truth of Christianity more than ___.”

Racist? Pedophile? Rapist? Perhaps the best-documented, most prolific liar in American history? Corruptly enriching himself at the expense of the people? Got it. And you say there are still Christians supporting this man as their political leader? Hmm. 🤔

Getting asked by the PCUSA church we attend to consider becoming “covenant partners” (I.e., “members”). In addition to my church baggage making me not ready to take that step yet, I’m also not sure where I even land on the concept of local church membership more generally. Any thoughts on this?

Ground News really needs to highlight the factuality of sources even at the free tier. Is something really a blind spot for, say, the “left” if most of the sources on the “right” reporting something are mixed/low factuality sources? C’mon.

Trying to start a letter-writing campaign of sorts with family and friends…with VERY limited success. Shout-out to @JohnBrady for being a great letter-replier, even just to online acquaintances! :)

Things feel so lonely, stressful, angry, and sad. I think I either need spring to get here fast, or for the fascism to crumble. Or maybe some more friends.

My trial subscription to The Dispatch is up in a week. Trying to decide whether to stick around. Lots of good stuff, but then pieces like this one about Biden’s “lawlessness” give me pause. I’m no Biden cheerleader, but, c’mon. thedispatch.com/article/b…
The Quiet Lawlessness of Joe Biden
He was elected to restore norms but has done more damage to the rule of law than any other president.

Arresting journalists. Raiding election offices. Masked government agents trampling on constitutional rights by surveilling, terrorizing, disappearing, and killing people. Damn, I wish we had, like, a good word to describe all of this!

If you’re more conservative and your views have shifted toward opposing ICE’s current behavior, what specifically was most effective in changing your mind? How do we open more eyes?

How you treat immigrants is how you treat Jesus Christ.
January 29, 2026 at 2:39 AM
If you’re trying to help conservative family and friends get up to speed about what ICE has really been up to and why people are mad, where would you point them, specifically? Is there a good catalog of abuses and critiques? Or at least a starting point?

From Ryan Holiday:

🧵 THREAD: Why "both sides" arguments in the face of obvious injustice aren't wisdom—they're moral failure.

I keep seeing this from Christian commentators and it's making me furious. Here's why the theological tradition condemns it.

Trying to put my finger on why I find “both-sides,” “don’t rush to conclusions,” “don’t fan the flames,” etc. so incredibly frustrating, especially from Christians. I think they’ve got the appearance of wisdom, but that, past a certain point, it’s self-serving cowardice underneath.

Just angry. So, so angry. And I don’t see any hope for meaningful change in the current media/information landscape.

I’ve been watching Ken Burns’ American Revolution documentary lately and, historians can keep me honest here, but it feels like Trump/MAGA/ICE are every bit as bad, if not worse, than what drove the colonists to Revolution. Thoughts?

Isaiah 58, but it’s about Christians who will “March for Life” but won’t speak up for immigrants and everyone else terrorized, abducted, and even killed by ICE. Go read it.
