Testimony against a warehouse w train rails sold to DHS for a concentration camp. From 🧵.

In 1945, the US military showed a camp to the local town officials.
"You are to blame."
1 said "not all..."
But then the mayor took his own life.

"They knew enough."
"We know enough."

Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

Oh no. I had missed this news. Back when I was a complete nobody college student, someone connected me to Dave, and he got me onto his Interesting People mailing list. Later, as I was graduating and figuring out what to do with my life I had emailed him and he gave me really excellent advice. 😢
Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Farber. He was a true pioneer who had major influence on the architecture of the Internet and tech policy. Rest in peace to one of the most "Interesting People" our field has ever known. mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/iet...

No sympathy for a team whose owners let ICE use the team jet to deport people to concentration camps.

Age verification? I saw Star Wars across town at the Westgate (RIP) when the movie was first out, one of the only area theaters fully equipped for that fancy new "Dolby Stereo" sound system.

Star Wars is the only SW movie I've ever seen in full.

The choice to frame this rhetorically as a negotiation *with ICE and DHS* rather than, you know, a decision about their future made by their rightful superiors in the popularly elected legislature is, to me, incredibly grating.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

at one point during the campaign jd vance was indignantly talking about haitian asylees in ohio and said "illegal aliens don't become legal just because the government says so" and i've been mad about it ever since, and this is the key to what he actually meant
The way to understand this, I think, is that everybody knows that when Trump or Vance says "illegals" he's not talking about legal status, but about social desirability, and so people think that that distinction goes both ways.
These people are just crazy. Trump gets up and says "MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS" and they're like "he probably means a path to legal status for deserving immigrants"

In 2022, four states banned using forced prison labor (TN, AL, OR, and VT), but those rules may not apply to undocumented immigrants imprisoned outside the regular legal system. That's what pundits should be telling us now - and what "resistor" states could do. 5/

Everyone now thinks of the six extermination camps and their gas chambers: Auschwitz, Birkenau. But the bigger effort was the hundreds of forced labor camps. At WWII's end they housed over 5M people, slave labor to Make Germany Great Again. Locking people up and making them work is an old story. 3/

It is critical to understand this and stop the bad takes. No one will put immigrants in camps and have them sit around. They will work in factories and on farms and in construction, without pay, just as happened in all prior historical examples. 2/

Yes. Miller knows those people can't all be deported. He knows they will be in camps. We need to understand: many, many people in Trump's circle read about the Nazis, openly admire Hitler, and want to emulate what Hitler did. We have to accept how serious this is - we cannot hide from it.
Dear all saying no worries, Trump can't round up 10M immigrants because their work is needed for the US economy: please, remember that MOST of the camps in Germany from 1938 were "Arbeitslager" - labor camps. Deporting people is hard. But locking people up and making them work, that's been done. 1/

i think this more than anything is what miller wants. vast detention camps with all of the suffering and death that means.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...
