It's gonna be quite the ride as my video with @arliecoles.bsky.social begins to get less-than-good-faith commentators trying to argue about Episcopal polity. It also seems some people just want their bishops to be Strong Man that can tell people What To Do All The Time

February 2025, a regular attendee of my parish scheduled time with me to voice their concern about a supply priest while I was on vacation. Basically, they felt this priest crossed a line in the politics brought up. (I suggested meeting with that priest, not me).
Very normal for a US ambassador to be using his position to engage in intra-Christian theological disputes.

Just now learning that the main character of Philip K. Dick's novel "The Transmigration of Timothy Archer" was based on Bishop James Pike!

Did the Episcopal Church target Bishop Duncan because of his conservative views? I'm excited to share this episode with you all. My guest, Arlie Coles (@arliecoles.bsky.social), brought excellent research and lays out this story clearly and succinctly. ⚓

Thinking about table flipping as I read this coming Sunday's gospel, Matthew 4:12-23, and reflect on Eugene Boring's commentary. I am struck by 4:12, that Jesus "withdrew" in response to John the Baptist's arrest. Boring observes that this is indicative of Jesus' non-violent and non-retaliatory way.

Yes, but also, what if Scripture was a unicycle we rode, while only remaining balanced by clutching a giant pole with tradition on one end and reason on the other? While dressed as a clown , bc total depravity.
This is why I am not a theologian.

The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church. The posts of the influencers is the herbicide of the Church. In this essay, I will...
On my annual winter e-break I came to the conclusion that basically every facet of our lives has gotten worse because a majority of people now primarily "live" online and thus only experience the world in the abstract. The loudest voices online/in culture aren't actually living real lives anymore.
There should be a sort of 24 hr soft ban on this site that, when logged in, asks for your location and then indicates the distance and directions to the nearest park or outdoor public place
