Pork (bacon) on New Year’s Day for luck, but on top of avocado toast to keep Dave Ramsey away all year
I achieved 200! It was fun. This year I am setting no goals other than trying to organize some group outings to introduce new people to the hobby
My goal for 2025 is to hit 175 birds in my home county: Cabell, West Virginia. 200 is my stretch goal. I shall document my progress here

I wish eBird did a year recap. In any case, here are 4 birds that I saw this year. Photos are of the actual bird that I saw but taken by others. Credits in description 🪶

David (@dljohnston.bsky.social) and I have fallen in love with Natalia Lafourcade's music and highly recommend it to all.
After gaining mainstream stardom in the Spanish-speaking world in the 2000s, the Mexican artist Natalia Lafourcade made a startling pivot to folk music. Jack Herrera profiles the former teen pop star who has become a new emblem of “Veracruz sound.” newyorkermag.visitlink.me/CgXM46

Remember to hydrate today.

Especially you who are preaching, singing, playing, processing, serving, greeting, cooking, cleaning, printing, hymn board changing, providing childcare, verging, ushing, acolyting, thurifering, altar guilding, live streaming, and/or panicking ⚓

A UM pastor friend posted on FB about how he got a call that sounded like it could be from the same guy. Then another Methodist pastor friend asked if it was [name redacted], which was the name of who called me. Turns out this guy is known and needs help we cannot give.
So I was literally just cold called by a guy wanting me to explain the Trinity to him. He was not calling in good faith and would not let me get more than 3-4 words out without interrupting me. I told him I'd email him. Let me know if I become TikTok fodder!
What if I made viral content by videoing cold-calls to churches asking someone to explain the Trinity to me?

You may think your calling into your elected officials' offices isn't doing anything. But you may very well be living rent free in some staffer's brain afterwards!

Loading my beautiful children Kayleigh, Hrayden, and Hiytler-Anne into my FürherTruck ChildCrusher450. Idling an hour in the parking lot of the local church INSPYR to view the nativity scene, belching carbon into the troposphere. I notice the Joseph is looking a little swarthy. Christmas is ruined

Find myself weepy at these words every time:

Dying sinners, will you come,
The Saviour now invites you;
His bleeding wounds proclaim there's room,
Let nothing then affright you—
Room for you, and room for me,
And room for coming sinners:
Salvation pours a living stream
For you and all believers.

A roux of mercy makes for a smothering gravy of grace 😭
coming home from dropping a friend at the emergency room in the cold dark of the freezing morning I drove by a light-up sign that read “ÉTOUFÉE IS BACK” and briefly understood what it feels like to receive a sign from god
