I will say gently: every famous counter sit-in from the Civil Rights era was a crime.

Nonviolent civil disobedience is quite literally and explicitly a strategy where you commit crimes.
I'm sorry, I'm lol'ing hard at "crime he disapproves of." As if some crimes are perfectly fine and okay.

Yeah, go ahead and set the city on fire. Just like Trump and Steven Miller want to see happen. Play right into their hands!

This is so stupid.

I have this great Spanish history book about female prisoners of the Franco regime who managed to communicate with each other and anti fascist cells by encoding messages in knitting patterns they shared. The male guards never checked them because it was "just" women's knitting patterns

Can confirm. My father (formerly a die-hard GOPer, veteran of arguing with me every day through the 2000s re: W) is now a protest security captain and attends daily movement debriefings. Never fails to amuse and hearten me
Lots of regular degular, never-done-an-activism folks have been activated in recent months and are working alongside a bunch of seasoned, die-hard, been-tired-for-ten-years-or-more organizers, and you don't know all of those stories bc most people are moving with a bit of discretion in these times.

Guys, this thing where Mamdani just like does things that make life easier and less suffering-full for people….someone should study it. I think he might be onto something.
It’s your city, from the sidewalk to the skyline. The David Dinkins Municipal Building’s rooftop is open & free to everyone, starting this June.

DO NOT DO THIS, STOP TRYING TO MAKE THIS A THING
AI “deadbots” aim to replace the dead—and raise plenty of ethical issues, Charley Burlock argues. “Perhaps the biggest question is how such a product might shift our experience of personal grief and collective memory.”

i think this is exactly right. fascism is the Death Drive as ideology. it's why the catastrophic end of the Nazi Party does not deter people from worshipping Nazis. that the Nazis destroyed Germany along with the rest of Europe is part of the appeal.
disturbingly plausible

It’s not that this is the bare minimum. It’s that the Democrats looked at the bare minimum, went “wow. Seems hard.” And promptly did a tenth of it. JUST ABOLISH THE THING, YOU GUYS.
Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the party agreed on three main goals:

° Require warrants in some cases and ICE coordination with state and local law enforcement

° Create a code of conduct and enforce it

° Require agents to wear body cams and not masks
Democrats demand new ICE restrictions as government shutdown looms
After federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Senate Democrats say they’ll block a massive government funding package without policy changes.

Just shut it down, my dude.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

"Since January 2010, 364 people have died as the result of encounters with CBP agents... [This is] an undercount. According to a 2020 report from the Government Accountability Office, CBP does not have reliable information on deaths and has not consistently reported [this] information to Congress."
Border Patrol shot someone in Arizona this morning outside Arivaca.

The murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti are not unusual. Border Patrol agents have killed hundreds of people over the past few years. We know about Renee and Alex because Border Patrol was deployed in a city, in front of cameras.
