#Ellroy
A jug of sulfuric acid and a personal letter from Hubert Humphrey? Sounds like a James Ellroy writing prompt.

I remember the plastic of that tape case smelled like Fritos which was truly strange. I don’t think it had the liner notes in that depth? I did read some press coverage though. Btw like your James Ellroy inspired avatar.

James Ellroy thought remains winning.

James Ellroy. Tom Waits. Tim Meadows. Lance Bangs. Lynn Shawcroft. Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon together. Ed Brubaker. Aesop Rock. The two guys that make up James S A Corey (always want to hear what it was like to have Bezos use their concept of space life in his actual space company)

"Harper’s latest (after The Last King of California) displays his sublime storytelling talents ...Uniting three disparate lost souls in a case of blackmail, human trafficking, and murder involving the glitterati and power brokers, this novel is perfect for fans of James Ellroy and Raymond Chandler."

To my knowledge Marcus Bachmann, unlike modern right-wing lavender-marriage influencers, was never out prowling for twinks like a James Ellroy blackmail victim so maybe the Republican party really has lost its dignity

📚💙 Book 10 of 2026 - Jazzed by Jill Dearman. Read for #booknerd category “Read a book featuring Jazz.” By the halfway point, I was basically rage-reading this garbage novel, and I would have DNF’d it is not for the challenge. I get that it’s a female take on Leopold and Loeb, but I still hated it

Ellroy naming this homunculus head-ass character "Homan" and saying no, that's too on the nose.

Well that’s a good little nugget of info, though it’s totally possible we’ve already had an estimate for how long the Society has been around and I just forgot. Though I kinda doubt it given how little we knew.

It was not lost on me that he behaved very differently at a book launch by the younger, bigger, stronger J Ellroy a few years later.

Two things l am no longer excited by. A new James Ellroy novel or a new Ben Wheatley film.

En 1986, 🖊️ James Ellroy
Uno de los grandes escritores contemporáneos de #NovelaNegra, publicará una magnífica novela;
📖 La Dalia Negra (Random House)
Donde se aporta una posible explicación a este crimen.
Existen más teorías... Pero el caso sigue sin resolverse oficialmente, a día de hoy...

Generally I agree (though this reminds me that I once recommended Ellroy read 2666, no idea if he ever did though)
hot take: no crime novel should ever be 1,000 pages.

I'm only through the part where they talk about Ellroy himself and I didn't know he's the final boss of Misogyny. He lives in my state so imagine this is me in front of his apartment once I find it

“Some men get the world, some men get ex-hookers and a trip to Arizona. You’re in with the former, but my God I don’t envy the blood on your conscience.”

James Ellroy, “L.A. Confidential” 1990.

First book of 2026 is a good ‘un: A VIOLENT MASTERPIECE by @jordanharper.bsky.social. Three characters on the periphery of L.A. celebrity uncover corruption, scandal, and a serial killer. Jordan’s thriller weaves dark street poetry like prime Ellroy; this book is a knife to the kidney. Out in April.

🧵 Signed Book Collection

In my adventures & jobs, been able to collect a lot of great entertainment & signed items.

Here's a few:
14) PERFIDIA signed by James Ellroy. His best? No. Signature super lazy? Yes. But when in presence of greatest living American crime writer, it'll do!

America, 2015-2026, is like a James Ellroy novel as adapted by the Coen Brothers. Scratch the surface of anyone powerful and you get grotesque corruption but also, everyone is dumb as shit.
