#CONSENSUS
the aim of the american constitutional structure is twofold: to prevent major change without consensus and to have a workable system of self-government. supermajority rules for ordinary business might promote consensus (i think this is wrong btw) but they make government unworkable!

A General Consensus

This is literally the consensus belief on this website. And because everyone knows it’s the consensus belief, big tastemaker accounts completely refuse to challenge it, because their game is to say things that they know the majority of their audience will agree with. So the falsehood spreads.
defining the economy is capitalist propaganda, as is measuring it with graphs. also, the economy is bad and used to be better and everyone knows it.

Being pro-Israel was an elite consensus and litmus test and it is no longer sustainably capable of being one

I followed the chain back and I don't think the claim is really consensus belief on here, I just think the relevant nexus of beliefs highly correlates with "likely to get in a fight with Will Stancil" and that is distorting his perception somewhat.

The broad vibe shift against an organization like AIPAC is good overall and indicates something serious in the underlying direction of the Democratic base but I think, and have for a long time now thought, it was always a bit too simplistic to chalk up the pro-Israel consensus *to* AIPAC et al.

Worth remembering as ever that within the life time of most of our political class, the 'whacky' idea of abolishing landlordism was cross party consensus

The Anglo consensus of the first half of 2010s was that where continental Europeans were endemically subject to crises and demagoguery, "we" were distinctly were more enlightened. Cameron's Britain. Obama's America. Ponderous essays about Magna Carta and the "golden thread".

How wrong it all was.
I fear we are seeing in the UK what has become abundantly clear in the US: for all their power and privilege, elites and institutions are absolute cowards in the face of right-wing authoritarianism. Weak, weak, weak, as Tony Blair once said

The consensus is that the electrification of transportation will destroy 5 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2030.

In this new piece I argue that this number is too low for a bunch of reasons.
Gluttons For Punishment: Oil Industry Doubles Down Against Reality
The world is facing a multi-year oil glut where the oil producers will be pumping more oil out of the ground than the world is using. This will keep oil prices at low levels – likely well below the le...

Like, 15 years ago, “analytics” might have been a new strategy from an upstart team looking for an edge. The skepticism was understandable, if closed-minded and retrograde. Now basically every team in every pro league uses them! They’re the consensus!

Honestly terrifying that the BBC can run an unhinged story about lesbians being forced to have sex with trans women, with one of the main sources being a rapist who responded to the story's publication by calling for trans people to all be hung, and the Official Consensus is they are too pro-trans

And it's very clearly a result of his leadership style tbh, he's good at getting voters together and building consensus by basically talking to everyone all the time, but that does not work when the moderates are swearing bullets and wanting to rabbit. Hard to use honey to make someone stop

I think it’s insane how people just make stuff up about people they don’t like. It’s like consensus reality broke and everyone decided to create their CYOA
holy shit this isn’t true

Rather the development of this more hardline consensus came after the fall of an important structural counterweight in the USSR and the assumption of near total impunity on the part of the United States in its rampage across MENA, as well as the enduring depiction of Palestinians as subhuman.
