#Bad-lieutenant-port-of-call-new-orleans
Husband and I are talking about what movie to watch (at home) as a family tonight.

My eyes went to a stack of DVDs in the living room and stopped first on Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, then on Happy Together.

So, yeah: still taking suggestions.

The thing I appreciate about the BLCU is how they let their directors show their personality, none of that cookie cutter stuff

#Bad-lieutenant-port-of-call-new-orleans, what a movie. Peak #NicolasCage and #Herzog, zeiting each other's geist perfectly. The James Ellroyesque script is really enjoyable, no spoilers but it's brilliantly executed. Cage's performance is incredible, one of his greatest 🙌

Werner Herzog seemed like an unlikely director for a Nicolas Cage cop movie. But the resultant collaboration was steeped in the director’s customary themes and preoccupations. 'Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans' was released on this day in 2009:

Me watching The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans:

Wow, he’s a bad guy. I guess that’s why they don’t call it The Good Lieutenant.

I guess Port of Call is a little surprising, but the rest scan.

If you haven’t seen it, Werner Herzog gets the best out of Nic Cage in the way he once did with Klaus Kinski — w/ Cage playing the drug addicted degenerate cop in NOLA right around the Hurricane Katrina fallout. It’s so insane that you end up actually rooting for him.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. 2009. Dir: Werner Herzog. In which Nic Cage improvised almost all his lines and Herzog likened him as a “gift from god.”

The Wikipedia section on Abel Ferrara’s reaction to Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read

Watching Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. In some ways this is an even worse Lieutenant.
Watching Bad Lieutenant. Can confirm that's a really bad lieutenant

Iran banned Jafar Panahi from making movies, so he shot one at home and mailed it to the Cannes festival hidden inside a cake!

Herzog is his own genre. He’s both insane and the clearest-minded of directors. Truly unique🥰

There’s also noirs with memory loss, including the superb “In a Lonely Place”
