NOFX. “S&M Airlines.” 1989. If you’re a struggling director, just know that the dude who directed this ended up making Pirates of the Caribbean 🏴‍☠️

A Bit of Fry & Laurie. 1989.

It’s 36 years old — and incredible to watch right now. 80s British comedy genius with a gut punch in 2025.

This is *perfect* picking technique — playing so cleanly that the guitar sounds like a harpsichord. His name? Yngwie J* Malmsteen.

If you haven’t seen it, Werner Herzog gets the best out of Nic Cage in the way he once did with Klaus Kinski — w/ Cage playing the drug addicted degenerate cop in NOLA right around the Hurricane Katrina fallout. It’s so insane that you end up actually rooting for him.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. 2009. Dir: Werner Herzog. In which Nic Cage improvised almost all his lines and Herzog likened him as a “gift from god.”

I just posted a milestone-moment-in-cinema history clip from The Virgin Spring — but it’s been flagged as ‘explicit disturbing media’, which means you likely won’t see it on your TL, but it IS on my feed, just so you know *cough* 🎬

The Virgin Spring. 1960. Dir: Ingmar Bergman. Herr Töre has just discovered that the 2 men & boy he put up for the night have earlier raped & killed his missing daughter — and so he prepares his vengeance.

You know, I have become sceptical about the "contractual reasons" or "record company pressure" excuses. Is it just an alibi for lack of creativity? If a (then) small underground band like Celtic Frost was able to liberate itself from such shackles, it should be possible for most other bands as well.

I have to believe that these bands going on hiatus contributed to the “hunger” of coming back to deliver the goods. All 4 bands completely revitalized.

Carcass | Celtic Frost | Orphaned Land | Coroner
November 6, 2025 at 3:17 AM
The new Coroner reminds of when established artists still prioritized artistic integrity over ‘product’ — the fact they spent 10 years *discarding* 90% of what they wrote speaks volumes. Of course that doesn’t automatically make it good, but ffs it’s clear they didn’t put this out just to sell merch
Just when you think ‘thrash’ can’t go anywhere else and then they drop this — inevitably it takes the cerebral genius of Coroner to break away from the generic rehashed thrash template, thank fck — but it transcends the genre anyway, and doesn’t need categorization.
