It doesn’t matter how well the sidewalks are cleared if this is what the curb cuts look like after they clear the roads down to the pavement for benefit of people in their 3000 pound motorized and heated boxes on wheels.

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

Researchers have found two new vulnerabilities in React Server Components while attempting to exploit the patches last week.

These are new issues, separate from the critical CVE last week. The patch for React2Shell remains effective for the Remote Code Execution exploit.

Unpopular Opinion? Our roadways should be designed with built in safety features for pedestrians and cyclists first because pedestrians and cyclists aren't protected by a 1800kg metal cage with seatbelts, airbags, and crumple zones. #visionzero #winnipeg #roadwaysafety

Vital Cat Update
It’s time to talk about my cat. To which you might be saying, “Chuck, I didn’t know you had a cat!” and I’d respond with, “I didn’t know I had a cat either…

In my dream-yet-not-impossible world, we'd tax the rich appropriately so that we could fund UBI to a level everyone has a guaranteed livable income that covers not only food & shelter, but treats too. And truly universal healthcare that covers physical/mental/dental & meds, equipment, therapies etc.
Anyone who thinks it’s possible to fake disability for fraudulent benefits has clearly never known anyone even obliquely who has had to interact with the systems involved. Driven by a false FEAR of fraud: labyrinthine friction and ridiculous obstacles, designed to get the user to give up.
You can’t tell if someone is disabled just by looking at them.

There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”.

You are not entitled to a person’s entire medical history just so you can decide whether to believe them or not.

People are not faking disability, most are trying to fake being well.

AI is a climate issue. AI is a climate crisis.
A few important points here

- Generative AI supercharged data centre growth: lobbyist and substacker lines pretending like this is just streaming are false

- Even when you consider much of the projected growth is speculative, the *likely* projects are still MASSIVE

I am wondering if the government could amend the Competition Act to prevent this type of surge pricing - e.g. by limiting the number of times in a day/week that the price can be changed?

I just heard that Manitoba is going to be selling off the back stock of US liquor until Christmas, giving proceeds to the Cheer Boards in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Thompson - essentially dealing with the dormant product we’d already paid for in a way that benefits us locally. Genius idea.

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl.

Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

Canadians! You can now vote for the Canadian Word of the Year!

(If we had the option to choose a Canadian WOTY in French as well, I'd suggest the gender-neutral pronoun "iel" which has been in the news a lot in Quebec this year, but probably not applicable since this is an English dictionary)
2025 has been an eventful year for Canada's identity. To commemorate the year, The Society for Canadian English is choosing a 2025 word of the year (CWOTY), based on the Dictionary of Canadianisms on Historical Principles.

This article honestly explains so much to me. Why younger folks post so much more in images rather than text that would take up a tenth the space.

Why whenever I make up an "easily pronounced for English speakers" fantasy name, so many younger folks are unable to guess at its pronunciation.
