We're not going to be able to offer out our annual LGBTQIA+ Writer's Grant this year as it stands, but we hope to offer it out again in 2026.

We will be opening up free short story editing for LGBTQIA+ writers again after Xmas though, details here:

Okay! So! It looks like we should be able to move ahead with SATURDAY MOURNING TELEVISION! Now comes the housekeeping part - it will take until the end of the month for us to make sure contracts and offer letters are in order. We plan on sending them out just after Hallowe'en. 1/2

Whether we get the good news we're hoping for next week re. the future of Saturday Mourning TV or not, I just feel the need to say thanks again to all those who submitted their writing, especially those who are bearing with me for a proper decision.

My first work ever published was titled the Loneliness of Malabron. It was published by @sliceduppress.bsky.social in 2022.

It has now been translated to French, my own language, in Malpertuis XVI. 🥰

This story was originally written for @sliceduppress.bsky.social 's "Saturday Mourning" anthology. It didn't get in, but I put it up anyway because I think horror stories need more deformed PROtagonists.

And Dex Drury's Pa(i)ncakes from SLAY AND SLAY AGAIN! is on the shortlist along with many more brilliant poems - the Rhysling anthology is stacked with great stuff!
SFPA Members, don't forget that VOTING closes for both the Rhysling Award and the Elgin Award on Sept. 15!

Just five more days to those votes in!!

Thanks so much in advance for celebrating speculative poetry with us. We can't do this without you 💜

In the wake of the Anthropic suit, here's a bit about copyright in our publications.

Copyrights for all stories & poems we publish remain with the writer, this is a standard clause in all our contracts.

We're based in the UK so works don't have to be registered here to be copyrighted.

BUT!

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Many authors have searched The Atlantic's LibGen database of pirated titles to see if they are listed there. However, I've uncovered that authors of short fiction aren't always discoverable there.

Here's how I discovered more of my short fiction in the list. 1/

Received the 2025 Rhysling Anthology in the post today.

Reading through it this evening and there's some stellar poetry in there - including of course Dex Drury's Pa(i)ncakes, which we were proud to publish in SLAY AND SLAY AGAIN! alongside many more brilliant queer horror poems & stories. 💀🌈

On a different note we figured out the whole ID thing, so the UK ain't keeping us from talking about our books on here for now!

Thanks for all your kind words everyone, and your understanding. This will mean I can't run the yearly LGBT+ writers grant either unless things turn around, but watch this space, I hope to not let all *waves hand* this keep me down for too long.

Due to an unforeseen change in my personal circumstances I'm not going to be able to publish SATURDAY MOURNING TV this year.

Once things are back to normal I'll make a further announcement.

The affected authors have been emailed and I'm really, really sorry to have let anyone down.

Please keep your eyes on our website for updates, as on 25th July the UK is mandating that users of social media provide a face scan, ID verification or a payment card and we might not be able to do that.

Many people have said this far more eloquently than me today but fuck the 'zon, if you need to shop online, do it elsewhere on "prime day" and ANY day.
