Good information on the street is invaluable, but I'll have no handwringing when folks turn out to observe/resist non-ICE actions right now. Other cops have an easy path to not be mistaken for ICE -- wear identifiable uniforms, no masks, and show badges. They can make this stop whenever they want!

I've seen this confirmed by people who've worked in Congress. This wasn't a "gang of 8," this was to establish plausible deniability for Senators who aren't facing reelection anytime soon.
I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.

For folks questioning the RCV impact in this race: opponents didn’t pull away/depress any of Frey’s #1 votes, and didn’t motivate a significant number of new voters (‘21 already v high turnout). So how was this scenario going to play differently in a conventional municipal primary/general?
