While reporting this, we came across this ProPublica story from 2019 about a Border Patrol Facebook group.

Hardly any differences between this and other cop pages we've reported on. It's all the same dehumanization and racism, just different targets (w/ Chicago cops—usually it's Black people).

Tesla's Supervised Robotaxis in Austin have now reported 7 crashes to NHTSA in just 300,000 miles.

That's a crash every 43k miles, despite Tesla's "Robotaxis" having a supervisor who has their finger on a kill switch!

Behold, the horrors that a poor Tailwind/NextJS app has shown me. I am cursed with knowledge, and now you must be too.

This CSS is overridden by the time it is allowed to apply, I didn't even think about CSS nesting being able to do this, but here we are.

My dad (born in the US, now a retired veteran) told me about a time he would have been deported by the INS.

He worked at a restaurant in his younger years, INS basically deported everyone that worked in the back, it just happened to be a time he wasn't working.

LA, SF, blue states are the safest, healthiest, and subsidize the welfare states:

"Texans 17% more likely to be murdered than Californians

Texans 34% more likely to be raped

earn 13% less

and pay 3.8% more in taxes" (overall)

"Germans call this "a permanent bailout." We just call it "Missouri."

The issue isn’t that policing used to be racist & therefore it’s bad forever. It’s that creating a state sponsored paramilitary organization based on racist ideas abt work & property with no meaningful accountability or oversight shapes the society around it.

Tesla Full Self-Driving is not safer than a human driving manually.

- FSD failed a DMV driver's test
- HW3 has 20/60 vision (illegal)
- HW4 has 20/40 vision (bare legal minimum)
- FSD hallucinates like all AIs

It's no surprise Tesla can only defend FSD with fake safety stats.

For the first time, I'm the full stack dev trying to get an existing large site to support a second language.

Do not recommend.

Let's all speak the same language and abolish time zones, please and thank you.

One of the interesting things about "Generative AI is just as good as humans" discussions is that they often use what we consider *failure modes* in human learning and communication as the point of comparison for AIs.

Like, yes. Lots of humans write emails that are vacuous and content free!

Yes! Plenty of shipping enterprise code is basically stitched together out of StackOverflow answers. But before GenAI blew up, architects and devs regarded this as a significant problem that significantly dragged down orgs with tech debt, etc.

San Francisco has spent the last 3 years undoing any evidence-based drug policy in order to appease a very vocal group of uneducated but rich, fascist, right-wing losers (Sacks, Tan, Tandler, Shellenberger, etc). As everyone with understanding of this topic warned, San Franciscans are dying bc of it
San Francisco’s overdose deaths are rising — because
Mayor Daniel Lurie is repeating failed strategies.

The data is clear: Policing won’t solve a public health crisis.

Handcuffs make for good headlines, temporarily.

But these deaths are Lurie's legacy.

Why S.F.’s ‘remarkable’ drop in fatal drug overdoses has proved to be short-lived
After a promising decline in overdose deaths across the nation last year, fatalities are back on the rise in San Francisco. Experts say the supply chain for drugs has “reconfigured” itself.

Elon Musk how many kids does FSD need to run over before you fix this?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Firaxis releases bad software with completely broken core features, and has for over a decade.

I really enjoyed Humankind and it was released in a great state (at least in my personal experience).
