I wrote a book and it’s coming out in February 2026! REBEL OF THE REGENCY is a funny biography of Caroline of Brunswick, the lesser-known British queen. It will be published in North America by @hanoversquarepress.bsky.social @htpbooks.bsky.social

The Regency Era in Britain had a lot of heiresses. Some of them inherited money from Caribbean plantations and enslavement.

Our guest Miranda Kaufmann talks about her research on this topic and her book HEIRESSES, today on the podcast. pod.link/1489560920/e...

The fabulous skeleton of St. Pancratius in the Church of St. Nikolaus in Wil, Switzerland. He is a catacomb saints - skeletons exhumed in Rome and sent across the Alps to replace those destroyed during the Reformation. They typically ended up elaborately dressed and bejewelled

hate it when this happens.
In Japanese folklore be sure you follow the appropriate protocols when building your home: if a pillar is placed upside down, the spirit of the dead tree, the sakabashira, will manifest as a luck-stealing poltergeist, moaning and causing misery. #FolkloreSunday

thrilled to report that if Pope Leo is ever canonized as a saint, his jerseys will indeed become second-degree relics, and I unironically hope I live to see this
Omg wait @clairewillett.bsky.social are all of the Pope’s jerseys relics now????
He's the sports jersey pope now. 1000 years from now historians will be going through the Vatican archives trying to figure out who the Charlotte Hornets were.

Something I wish got challenged more often in this “men in crisis” discourse is the blithe assumption (or sometimes outright assertion!) that everyone’s boss is a woman now. “Women now dominate white collar work and corporate management roles.” No they don’t. That just isn’t true.

Assassins is the most indispensable American musical ever written, and therefore the greatest, and I will die on this tiny hill, clinging to my tiny flag like charlie guiteau clinging to a flimsy chapbook of his own poetry
also "the ballad of guiteau" is one of the best songs in sondheim's Assassins, which is one of history's best musicals

Technically, it's an aggravated felony sexual assault of a child, with harsher penalties put in place for perpetrators with younger victims.

Also, ACTUAL MEDIEVAL HISTORIAN HERE: For non-nobles, the average age of brides from the Black Death onwards was...22.2 years old.
I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

This is trying to make the staff the thing that needs to be fixed.

It is not the staff.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.
