Mary Shelley wrote FRANKENSTEIN after being cut off by her father, mistreated by her stepmother, and having lost her first daughter in infancy. It's no surprise that FRANKENSTEIN has themes of creation, life, death, and the effects of being abandoned by a parent.

Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein during a sunless summer while on the world’s worst sleepover party with, among others, LORD BYRON. This book’s ongoing popularity is testament to the power of teenage girls who are FED UP, and how we can all relate to a monster, abandoned and unloved.

We spent all of September talking about Marie Antoinette and today, we officially conclude the season with a discussion of Sofia Coppola's 2006 movie MARIE ANTOINETTE.
