Never forget that when conservatives couldn't win in a democracy they didn't abandon conservatism; they abandoned democracy.
Bush v. Gore was an unambitious declaration of war by Republicans against democracy and the rule of law. Republicans made clear they didn't view those principles merely as malleable concepts they could cynically bend; no, they see those principles as fundamentally incompatible with conservatism.
As one of those Democratic attorneys who was camped out in West Palm Beach - taking depositions from inconsolable grandmas swearing they hadn’t voted for Buchanan, I still have trauma. 🥺

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

On the right, incessant whining and whataboutism pays.

two of the four major networks are already right wing propaganda now.

Ultimately they'll start merging the bigger tech companies with telecoms and media, since we eliminated all regulatory oversight, media ownership limits, and antitrust reform of any kind

Y'know that Guardian article which cited an anonymous friend of Tyler Robinson claiming he was the only "leftist" in his family?

It just got updated after the "verified source" decided he couldn't remember his "relationship" with the accused shooter well enough to be quoted

WSJ edit board spins a fantasy: "for Mr. Trump, while this is a moment of personal sadness, it is also an opportunity for leadership...he can help the country rise above this madness. He can say that this is the moment when the descent into political violence must stop.”
Meanwhile — no, he can’t:
Trump: "For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we're seeing in our country & it must stop right now. My admin will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity"

In his Oval Office address on political violence, Trump lists the attempt on his life, the Scalise shooting, and attacks on ICE agents.

He does not mention Jan 6th, the attack on the Pelosi family, the Hortman murders, the kidnapping attempt on Gretchen Whitmer, or the fire at Gov Shapiro’s house.

Who the fuck did the New York Times think Charlie Kirk was? He was a political provocateur, an organizer of activists, if described in the best imaginable terms.

He wasn't a damned national hero. 75% of Americans woke up today not knowing who he was at all. Of the remaining 25%, half disliked him.
not even surprising at this point

This should go without saying, but Trump is not opposed to political violence. He’s opposed to violence against his political allies.

He is either silent about, or approving of, violence against his political enemies.
