This David French article shows the analytic peril of ignoring the way normal policing and repression work in communities of color. The so-called "dual state" he's highlighting (laws applied unequally, non-compliance met with violence) is *exactly* what Black Lives Matter was protesting.

Let's say it again:

1) Harvard said "No," and Trump has backed off.

2) Chicago (and Illinois) said "No," and Trump has backed off.

It's day by day. But those who said "OK, sure," have gained nothing at all. Except shame.
(CNN) - President Donald Trump shelved his plans to target Chicago as the next city for his domestic crime push after advisers warned him that sending in troops .. could create legal headaches they want to avoid, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

It seems like they are an echo chamber of people who believe all labor should be organized for shareholder profit.

It is really infuriatingly remarkable.

The evidence of police department lying is miles high, but their accounts are STILL treated as “just the facts” and taken at face value.

It’s such a toxic, but reflexive, habit in how the press treats them.
During the 2020 protests, I wrote this for NBC about police: After all the lies we've seen, why in our society are police still the official arbiters of what happened? Why do they have the monopoly on legitimate storytelling?

This has always been the GOP's strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves.

2) Explode the deficit.

3) Demand cuts to vital programs that help millions.

4) Repeat.

They're trying to get away with it again.

Anti-vax is now the mainstream GOP position.

They’re starting with COVID jabs because they’re new. And media has been willing to carve out an exception for skeptics of the COVID jabs as though they’re not anti-vaxxers.

But they are and they’re coming after all vaccines.

Today at least two judges were arrested for acts that are not criminally illegal and a two year old U.S. citizen was kidnapped and shipped to Honduras by ICE, who called it a "deportation."

Are we great again yet?
