The body of research basically consists of someone getting this result. Then a second group said "nah, this sounds too good to be true" and ran a better study. And got the same result. And then a third group, a fourth etc etc
Learn languages. It's also fun.

'people who are multilingual are half as likely to show signs of accelerated biological ageing than are those who speak just one language.'
Good thing that schools, universities and governments are so actively promoting modern languages then, isn't it? 1/2

A vast study suggests that being multilingual can slow down cognitive ageing.

seriously, @support.bsky.team get on this. In the current political climate, it is NOT good to let this fester. Why is @Sarahkendzior.bsky.social suspended?

It's really just nostalgia and homesickness that makes me want to move back to the States. Any practical consideration would be the lifestyle equivalent of shooting myself in the hand with a shotgun

Good thread analysing a tweet from a Spectator writer that is genuinely weird in just how online-far-right it is coded.

Fascinating to break this down and understand what stage of brainworms the Spectatorati are at now.

Hey @newsagents.bsky.social did Hannah Barnes ever tell you why the man respondents in her book are all involved in groups connected to conversion therapy?
Why Barnes now presents at SEGM, a fringe group condemned by mainstream experts?

You know that time that a major British news organisation mistakenly sought out a random dude who happened to share a name with a former New York mayor in order to go after a left wing New York mayoral candidate? Did anyone resign?

I’m reminded of that time a transphobic UN official included in a UN report a website that claimed to track all the sporting medals “stolen” by trans women.
It included a hot dog eating competition won by a cis woman they misidentified.
About a third of the rest was a trans woman good at frisbee.

The Olympics had allowed trans women to compete since the 2004 games.
Out of 10s of thousands of competitors, only one trans woman ever qualified. She came last.
Zero medals. Zero.

So the Telegraph’s “BBC bias dossier” - supposedly written by ex-BBC adviser Michael Prescott - is being used to claim there’s a rogue LGBT+ unit “censoring” gender-critical voices inside the BBC.
Let’s look at what’s actually in it. Spoiler: it’s nothing but recycled transphobic talking points!

For reference - Here’s the Telegraph article with the Prescott memo complaining about the BBC published in FULL.
Obviously, it’s an archived link which circumvents their paywall - as there’s no way I’m gonna give that transphobic rag any clicks or coin! 😣

One might ask “how does a US politician even know about an incredibly minor channel in another country”
It’s almost as if they’re part of the same far right political network. The one that’s just done a job on the BBC.

It's important to keep pointing this out about the many people who have gone the same way. Too often we suggest or imply that the trans moral panic merely allowed these people to be who they always were. Not true. We're seeing a process of *radicalisation*. We can't fix things unless we name them.
Transphobia is a pipeline to the far right. An example:
Suzanne Moore used to be a left wing columnist at the Guardian.
Then came the anti-trans panic. Despite the Guardian also promoting it, it wasn’t enough & she left.
Moore is now complaining about wokeness over the Irish famine & colonialism.

That transphobia afflicts a vulnerable minority should be reason enough for the left to oppose it, but a more mercenary reason for the sake of the body politic to oppose it is that indulging it invariably railroads previously sensible folk into indulging a whole pile of other bigotries as well.

Not one for having automatic blocking rules for non-bigot views, but I swear, any more knee-jerk replies that any leftwinger who radicalises to the far right was “never left wing actually was always like this and just hiding it all this time”

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.
