Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

The reason that centrist pundits are so enamored with IQ and race science is that acknowledgment of what a disadvantage it is to be marginalized in this country simultaneously invalidates both their own place in society and any solution that isn’t “better social safety net/schools/resources”
I was wondering why their is so much random racist discourse on Somalis on the TL rn but oh it’s election season for governor rn lol

the state can abide by gutting part of the prison system after all, so long as it helps the state abduct and imprison even more people
NEW: Federal prison workers are jumping ship & heading to ICE for better pay + bonuses. Already BOP lost >1400 people this year, reversing all of 2024’s staffing gains. It’s an unintended consequence of Trump’s push for mass deportations

As Federal Prisons Run Low on Food and Toilet Paper, Corrections Officers Leave in Droves for ICE
Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

Rather than seeing this as a political project, I would suggest it's better to see this as a reflection of an economy increasingly centered around the extremely niche emotional needs of people with billions of dollars to spare...

Seeing this quote floating around today misattributed to James Baldwin, as it has been for years. It was written by Robert Jones, Jr., author of THE PROPHETS, who long blogged as “Son of Baldwin.” I even saw a so-called AI summary attributing it to Baldwin 😭😭

I want to note, because the initial article doesn't make this clear, that the professor being taped in the video is calm, clear, and patient with the student. Furthermore, the professor appears to be teaching absolutely basic medically accepted science & history of gender expression.

One of the bitter ironies of American politics is that nobody is more committed to political correctness, in the traditional sense, than the reactionary centrist/classical liberal set. The People can't be trusted with revisionist or deviant sources, which might lead them astray.

have been also learning lately that data centers primarily draw water from public drinking water systems
with huge implications for access, infrastructure quality, cost of buildout, and water rates for residential customers who already usually subsidize industrial use, in addition to capex
Thanks to Karen Hao's brilliant book Empire of AI, I learned that potable water is the only type of water that can be used to cool data centers.

Saltwater or wastewaster isn't useable.

This one I do take personally. The custodial staff IS staff. I take them as seriously as anyone else who cares for and interacts with kids in a school. They break up fights, befriend kids, clean up after them and make the built environment reflect the school’s values — how kids see themselves.
I mostly mean, why would anyone spend their time surveying the custodial staff on classroom policy lol

Adrian Vermuele laid it bare recently: for the right, “crime” doesn’t mean crime, it means people acting in ways that we feel are socially unacceptable, and that we should be able to deploy force to intimidate.
The shorter point here, totally available for any elected Democratic leader who cares to get in front of a camera or make a TikTok video, is that America's blue cities are uniformly safer than its violent, crime-ridden red states. Murder rates in blue states are small fractions of red states', etc.
Late last night I mapped crime rates for cities in OH, SC and WV to show how often they exceeded the rate in DC — where those states’ governors are sending National Guard troops to “combat crime.” www.pbump.net/o/more-peopl...
